From the Model Desk of Spaceman Spiff: UPDATE on the 1/350 LPH-11 USS New Orleans

Update time. With a few minor additions, I’m calling this one done. Am actually pleased with it. Before weathering, I gave it a coat of Future floor polish, which is an acrylic gloss coat. Weathering was done with black, brown, white, gray, and yellow oils. Sort of like the dot filter method. Mixed up orange to simulate rust. As those who have served aboard are all too familiar with rust while at sea. Also mixed an enamel pin wash. The mini-mast looks crooked, but it isn’t. All white deck markings were painted.
The ship is done. Am now working on the “water” for the diorama. There water is made of celluclay. I tried to copy photos but I am not that good. Once it dries, it will be painted in varying blues/whites to try and replicate the ocean. Enjoy.

Great work Spiff! Didn’t you say your dad or grandpa served on this ship?

Like your work. Pretty good rendering of the water.

Thanks Darth! Dad did. Once I am finished, I’ll make a plexi-glass cover and give it to him. Wanted to get it done for him as he loved the ship. It will get a full air wing and crew on board.

Nice work, Spaceman. I hope to see the finished piece in here someday.
I first noticed this rather than “LPH-11,” and hoped to see the WWII cruiser of the same name. She had her bow blown off in the Pacific War and still managed to make it to port.

Nice job... I bet your dad loves it
Looks like it's been at sea for about 5 minutes. Not nearly enough rust

Today I learned that carrier decks were made out of peg board.

I will add the helos once it's set in the diorama. I backdated it to when Dad was on her - '69 - 70. No Harriers back then
