A few years ago we all started a tradition of meeting at a friend's house, having some drinks, and cooking almost everything for the next day along with something to eat that night.

Where as we usually dread the hecticness of thanksgiving, we have really gotten into the night before. The women all bake and make sides, the men brine the birds and prep the hams and make the dressing, and everyone has a good time.

What started as a night of drinking and dreading thanksgiving with family has turned into more of what thanksgiving is about.

We usually do this once or twice a month.

You're in the middle like a seal bouncing for a ball, so we don't need the biscuit.

Not just meet up and cook and drink, we do that every weekend. Just more about a holiday with people you actually like as opposed to people you're forced to love.

Takes the stress off of cooking everything too.

I like my family and my mom and mother in law do pretty much all the cooking.

I'll cook a gumbo Wednesday and let everyone eat on it throughout the weekend.

We always do that Thanksgiving night. We do the family thing during the day and get together in the evening and eat and drink and shoot guns.
