Yep.....something still smells about the financing part/angle.

Each percentage point increase on a $50K loan @ 60 months increases the monthly payment by approx. $22.

1% APR = $855 per month
2% = $876
3% = $898
4% = $920
5% = $943

Assuming he went 60 months, then $5K increase in payments is $83.33 per month. That would equate to 5x factor increase in rates.

This dealership is owned by Asbury Automotive group. If they couldn't get it bought by FMCC, then yes, the terms would have changed, but not the price of the vehicle. I'm surprised they didn't just try to give him a more favorable deal to avoid the potential CSI issues.

With the kid obesity problem in the US, this is a good thing.

I had a dealer try to do this to me because they really did make a mistake and give me the Tahoe for 6k less than their price; the wife and I could not drive off the lot fast enough. They realized the mistake the next day, I just smiled. The best part is my wife and I knew it the entire time and just let them keep "selling" us stuff for free. I think we drove off the lot with like 8k of equity in the Tahoe. LOL
