The poster I was replying to was clearly talking about making a payment on the loan, not a down payment on the vehicle.

That's thebpoint... it's a 3 oarty deal and the party demanding back the merchandise doesn't have the vehicle he traded in...

What in the world does that have to do with me asking who the buyer would have sent in a payment to during those 60 days if the financing hadn't been completed?

The downpayment (trade) is part of the deal....no, it's not part of the finance deal, other than the fact it gives a little equity to the bought/financed vehicle....so it's part of the finance company's decision/criteria/guidlines..

I do understand it's not a binding payment to credit...but there's more involved than that and NO, he didnt make a payment to a company that hasn't accepted the terms yet (the finance co)..BUT he did make a payment to the company he has signed documents with to buy it at a certain price.

Interesting subject

So did your friend agree to pay it? If so he is dumb. They can threaten him with whatever legal bullshite they want, but if papers were signed then there isn't dick they can do about it. I hope the hell he called their bluff.

Well, you sure did want to make it part of the finance deal when you said the trade-in was actually a big payment the buyer had already made in response to me talking about payments on the actual loan.

Yet in your post calling me a dumbass, that is exactly what you said the trade-in was. I asked where loan payments would have been made if the loan had never finalized with the finance company, you said a big payment had already been made in the form of a trade-in. So who exactly is the dumbass in this exchange?

The trade in is specifically mentioned in the contract as being returned

It wasn't there anymore....that's why the guy was asking for a truck of value to his trade.....bow, at that point, the dealership is dealing with house money because the trade is fair market value for his trade in, it's a lower amount. Top that with the "vehicle of equal value" being marked up...and the buyer now has been ducked 70 ways from Sunday
