At this point we have to start questioning if providers like Cox, Charter etc are specifically throttling internet speeds during big events to influence people who are cord cutting.
The answer is YES.

You can thank the elimination of net neutrality for your crappy stream

I have YouTube TV on ATT. No problems with any tv in my house except the LG OLED. Does this tv require more internet because of its superpowers or something? My shittier TVs inside and outside didn’t have a problem at all. But the best tv looked like shite.

You may have run into bandwidth issue If it was trying to pull a 4K stream while other TVs are already streaming.
You can eliminate this by prioritizing you “nice” TV to be the #1 priority for your router

How do I do that? BTW it’s hard wired into the router.

TVs have notoriously bad internet equipment. get a 4k Roku and be done with it.

Well, yeah. You can be sure they're doing that.
ISP's like to sell that bandwidth but don't actually want people to use it. They want people that check email, post on facebook/instagram/whatever and do occasional shopping.
They don't want you to listen to high rez audio or donwload stuff from companies like HD tracks or Linn Music. They sure as hell don't want you watching youtube, youtubetv, hulu, amanzon, disney plus, netflix, etc.

quote:Whether or not they are doing something intentional, the design of Cox and Charter's HFC network bandwidth is directly impacted by what the neighbors are doing. If a sizeable percentage of folks in SELA decide to stream content simultaneously, there is a good chance there will be service disruptions. That's just the nature of a shared bandwidth system--faster speeds overall but occasional crappy service when everyone else is online.

In the way more info than you'd ever want department: ATT's copper HSIA architecture is slightly different in that their bandwidth is allocated to specific customers, so customers' overall slower speeds are the same morning/noon/night and not affected by what the neighbors are doing.
Of course, the long-term answer for everything bandwidth-related is fiber. Not sure why, as a modern, 21st century country, we aren't making the investment to run fiber to every single house, barn, trailer, field, cavern, tavern, hut, lighthouse, fieldhouse, and outhouse. Sorry, got a little carried away there.
Anyone know why HSIA isn't regulated as a utility? I work in the industry (as a tech for the company who brought you Lily), and I'm puzzled why HSIA isn't treated with the same priority as water, gas, and electricity.
