I say we do away with the police like all these protestors want. I am OK with that.
I predict that the very ones protesting and raising hell are the same people who need police the most. Baltimore PD basically stopped policing after the Freddy Gray fiasco and it was the inner city that suffered. Not the suburbs or commercial zones. I predict the same when they “defund” the police
What y’all think? Shut em down and see what happens?

Throw up fences to separate the areas that want to be policed from the areas that don't.
Anyone on the police-less side attempting to flee justice by climbing into the policed area may be shot on sight.
Everyone wins.

This is the part in the dystopian novel where the private security force is hired and they start stacking bodies

You’re 100% right.
Lost in all the vitriol, bluster, and virtue signaling, from both sides, is that a weakened police force is not going to negatively affect middle to upper middle class neighborhoods and the suburbs. Lessened police forces will focus there and HOA’s etc can pay for private security and patrols. Reduced police forces will stop going into hot zones that are poverty-stricken urban centers.
The stats reflect this in cities that got big push back after well publicized police brutality incidents. The very communities protesting were the worst affected by the response

This would be like if you demanded that teachers not sleep with their students and a teacher said "frick it. let's do away with teachers".
If you honestly can't deal with criticisms and standards in police work then yes you should quit and it needs to be rebuilt from the ground up.
Otherwise why not take the opportunity to weed out the elements of the police that are causing all this outrage?

That’s what I think these folks didn’t even bother to think through. It isn’t like Audubon Place is going to go without protection. I can appreciate the people who want “Police Reform”, I get it. This guy shouldn’t have died that way. But calling for the elimination of police is just stupid.

My neighborhood employs private security

They think theyll be able to run into the suburbs and raise hell.
If there are no police, they're all getting killed and stacked at the end of the road.

Yeah, it's probably a minority of police who abuse/misuse their power (or at very best have extremely poor judgement in using it) .
However, it's just as clear that most police forces have an extremely serious problem "policing" their own officers.

I can't agree that it's most, but yes there are issues and we need to work to improve the police.
Cutting their budgets is going to make it much harder to hire qualified officers and keep them trained properly.
The liberal loons are just too damn stupid to think through these kind of issues and look at the bigger picture.

It’s far left radicals advocating for this. I guarantee the law abiding citizens of black areas in New Orleans East and Algiers would agree this is a terrible idea.

Can you imagine Mardi Gras in New Orleans without police?
Seriously would be catastrophic.

Crime has increased over the past few years, or at least murders in areas where the police have backed off a bit because of the michael brown and freddie gray situations.

I’m all for getting rid of terrible police officers.
And I’m not saying you condone this, but it is not okay to riot, kill, and loot when a cop screws the pooch. You are not going to realistically get a perfect police force. It’s not gonna happen.
What profession are you in? Is it feasible to get rid of every terrible person at their job in your profession? And when someone in an IT job messes up or horribly messes up, it’s not life or death.
What about the policeman who was killed for being a white cop on the Gulf coast in MS? No one gave a damn for this man and what happened to him was just as much horrible as what happened to Floyd. But that’s ok because he’s white. How bout we hold everyone accountable individually for their merits and mistakes? I know that’s asking a lot. But what people are asking for in regards to a police force will never be attainable. Cops are gonna screw up. They make too many split second decisions not to make mistakes.
So every time a policeman gets caught on camera doing something horrible, we can expect this kind of backlash? Even though he’s being prosecuted? Perfecting the police force is not realistic.
I rather build more jails and quit bothering with little petty weed charges and start locking more habitual violent criminals in jail for life. You know, the people who don’t want to conform to laws of the country. Some people just want to be evil. How hard is it not to rob a pregnant woman? Honestly, how hard do you have to try everyday not to break the law? Let’s stop celebrating the lives of criminals and start celebrating the lives of someone who actually was an upstanding member in the community.
