It's really not that hard to get around Baton Rouge at any time of the day if you know the roads and different routes.

Explain this one.
Essen is currently like this, due to the extra lane they are adding...............eventually.

This, about 90% of the time. Sometimes, you just can't get there...but, I'll damn sure try and figure something out.

My lease expires at my apartment this fall and I've already decided that I'm getting the hell out of this city. Traffic sucks, apartments are overpriced, people are assholes, and the crime is unbearable. My apt complex just had to hire private security to patrol the complex at night due to break ins and auto thefts - and this isn't in NBR.
Really sick of the shite here.

BR is a shitehole, but that's already been established.

I don't miss BR at all. Houston traffic is cataclysmic and yet there's hope in it. Ten times as many people and the leaders actually TRY to alleviate it. BR is hopeless, and that's what hurts the most.

f I had to pick one thing that pisses me off to no end about BR roads, its the fact that DOTD puts fricking red lights every block. I know, I know, the cross streets and the intersections. But my God, its like they try to make sure the driver goes only 100' and then he has to stop. I've never seen a city with more impediments to the free flow of traffic.
That's not DOTD (usually). That's the city-parish.
DOTD doesn't like to put up unwarranted signals either. Though, many times they are forced to by politicians.

That is god damn poetry right there.

As crappy as the traffic is in BR I cross the bridge everyday at 4:30 and my commute from PA to Essen rarely takes more than 25 minutes...about double the time with no traffic. I am just wondering what city isn't a complete clusterfrick at that time.

12 minutes from my office to my house this evening. No complaints here.
Posted on 3/14/16 at 6:32 pm to MettShow69
If you tell me vaguely where you are trying to go, from where, and at what time, I can tell you the fastest path.
BR traffic really isn't that bad if you take the right surface streets.
I can be from downtown to pecue in under 20 minutes at 5 oclock.
28 minutes and 32 miles to get home. Work downtown.

You just gotta go somewhere else man. Will always be the same here. I'm moving my family back to Atlanta. The amount of crap you have to put up with to live here is just not worth it. Dont waste time bitching...put a plan together and make it happen.

You touched on a good point likely by accident. It is DOTD and that's simply absurd in itself that roads like Perkins, Siegen, Essen and many more are controlled by the state.
Another big problem is the lack of any planning or basic zoning. Went to see my nephew at traction this evening and spent 45 mins in the parking lot. Most cities would mandate more than one entrance to a place that has that volume of traffic. But no. I was trying to leave the parking lot longer than the game itself lasted. Not to pick on Traction, but this kind of design is so common and should not exist from a safety POV alone.

Lack of planning, insight, creativity, forethought, vision. What else you wanna add?
It's hard to understand how cities like Houston or Atlanta can move the volume of traffic they do as efficiently as the do - yes they do it efficiently- and yet this city and state can't figure out the necessity of adding a uturn lane under an overpass that doesn't require a stop.
They can't even design new roads with the efficiency of other cities. Its ridiculous.

Some relevant information per the 2015 Urban Mobility Scorecard released by the Texas A&M Transportation Institute: LINK
Yearly Delay Per Auto Commuter (in Hours):
Washington DC - 82 (the worst)
Houston - 61
Dallas - 53
Atlanta - 52
Austin - 52
Baton Rouge - 47
New Orleans - 45
Tulsa - 44
Charleston - 41
There was also this. LINK
So, the average commute time is as follows:
Baton Rouge - 26.9 minutes
New Orleans - 26 minutes
National Average - 25.8 minutes
Lafayette - 25.4 minutes
Shreveport - 21.3 minutes
But according to the anecdotal evidence of the OT, Baton Rouge traffic is sooooooo much worse than any other traffic that ever existed.
It is certainly bad for its size, but people really overstate the severity of it. Especially compared to some other cities.

Census data from 2013 shows the average travel time to work for the Baton Rouge metro area commute is higher than the national average, but other regions in the state fall close to or even a bit lower than the national figure. Of the 195 major metropolitan areas analyzed, four were in Louisiana, covering the Baton Rouge, Lafayette, New Orleans and Shreveport-Bossier City regions.
The more than 369,000 commuters in the Baton Rouge area spent about 26.9 minutes on their way to work, according to the most recent census data, while the typical travel time nationally was 25.8 minutes. In the New Orleans and Lafayette regions, trips to work were largely in line with the national median, at 26 and 25.4 minutes, respectively. Commuters in the Shreveport-Bossier City area had the shortest trip to work in the state’s metro areas, with a mean travel time of 21.3 minutes.

wait are you sure? that can't be right because one of the most outspoken traffic polyannas just told me specifically that Houston and Atlanta move traffic, and they do move traffic, way better than shithole BR.
