The trains in Chicago are super helpful. I use them a ton when I'm up there. In Chicago, I never once felt like I needed, or even desired, a car. They're awesome, as is the bike sharing system.
Marta doesn't work because it doesn't take you where you want to go. It's that simple.

You don't really need a southern "loop"
You need a northern bypass, then a bridge that connects brusly/Addis to Hwy 30. Then 4 lane 30 all the way to i10 in Gonzales.

Preach. All you need is an easy way to get cars from Dow to Prarieville, from Geismar to Walker, an extra bridge across the intracoastal canal, and for cross-country 18-wheelers to bypass BR to the north.
There already is a "southern loop" for truck tracfic looking to bypass BR on the way to New Orleans, it's called US 90.

Agreed KB. I really enjoyed taking the trains in Chicago and I'm as automobile-centric as you can get. Not sure if it's doable in BR tho. Same for ATL. Cities are too sprawling to effectively serve by rail. IMO.
I'd love to try the bike thing in Chicago.

When the weather's nice, as it typically is all summer long, the bikes are the tits. There's a station roughly every mile. For a low fee, you can pick up or drop off bikes at any of the stations all day (or even get monthly or annual passes). The bikes are well maintained and have some of the best effort to motion ratios i've ever seen. I effortlessly rode one from Wicker Park to the Gold Coast to downtown one day. It was a blast.

Northern loop is the thru traffic bypass. And because of the bend in i10/12 it wouldn't be but a mile or two longer. And provide a straight shot to 190 traffic that need to get to 49

People leaving br is not why there is no loop. Baton Rouge is stuck by not having anywhere to make improvements. It starts at the river and every road going east from downtown are packed every afternoon except one. Choctaw drive. It's easy to get to from downtown and the traffic is not near as bad at the 5 o'clock hour compare to other streets you can take. Face it, with the huge amount of tractors hauling things through I-10/I-12 you are going have backups on them.

Is there even a truck stop between laffy and Houma on hiway 90???? That a long way for a trucker to go without out a decent place to stop.

m not asking to be a smart arse, I'm asking to see if that IN ADDITION to a better road system will work. I rode MARTA and I've ridden the L in Chicago. Liked both of them, but would still prefer my car. Just depends on the situation
You appear to be missing the entire point. You would "prefer" your car to the elevated train? in what scenario?
People take the L because if they need to move from point A to point B inside the dense central Chicago, it is much more efficient.
They would all "prefer" to be in cars moving just as efficiently, but that is not an option so they choose the train because it benefits them.

If you didn't leave. We wouldn't need a loop. But y'all got scared of black people moving down the street and gave up.
Well yeah if nobody ever moved to newer houses in newer neighborhoods and if federal law didn't force trash to invade neighborhoods and ruin the local schools then yeah, traffic would be lessened. Yay.

Hwy 90 is not a viable alternative to I-10. Too far out the way and only helps drivers coming from Nola, and even then it's a PITA to get to. I guess you can hit it from 310. But it can't be considered a south loop.

I will say for a trucker the traffic is far less than I-10. There is just not a lot of traffic that takes 90. But it's not really a loop as you say.

Fairly certain there are a couple in the Morgan City area. Also one in Houma at the Hwy 311 exit and another at the Bayou Blue/Gibson exit...or could be at Hwy 24, I get them mixed up.

I just don't see truckers wanting to cross the old bridge.
To me the logical solution is a bridge b/w Brusly and Plaquemine. All the people going to SBR, Gonzales, etc would use it and improve the flow on the new bridge. Also really need a new lane from the bridge to Perkins/Acadian off ramp.
Connecting 415 to the bridge that should be around Addis would also be a good idea.

I haven't been in that area for a long time so they may have built some. But if not wanting traffic it is the way to go.
