I know we are quite early in this thing.... but what is a realistic timeline to getting the bridge rebuilt?

They don’t actually navigate by taking the wheel

Not sure what everyone around here does for a living, but everything jones has said is pretty accurate. Would continue taking his advice and information going forward

The entire bridge doesn't need to be cleaned up, just the middle section for the shipping channel. In a major state of emergency, any idea how long that would take? I'd assume a couple of weeks?

That’s like saying the wheel doesn’t actually navigate it because the rudder does. Pilot gives commands, helmsman responds. Captain stays out of it for the most part. The ship blacks out on video twice so that’s 99% the most likely reason for the accident. Prayers for all involved.

In florida, 2 months
In Maryland, 5-6 years

Gotta do the environmental study first. That's a minimum 6 months and few million in the right pockets right there.

if the Houston Ship channel beltway bridge construction is any indication, could be a decade

e construction vehicles near the center of the bridge roadway at impact. I wonder if they had any warning?
seems like they had a chance of surviving if they could see what was happening and could jump off the side.
Lotta "ifs" though.
IF they survived the impact with the water,
IF no debris fell on them,
IF the water wasn't too cold and they could stay afloat with all their construction gear on.
If they had the balls to make the decision to jump off a tall arse bridge in the middle of the night because they made a split-second assessment that their odds of surviving were better jumping than staying on the bridge.

If you want to go down that rabbit hole there are plenty of stories online from 9/11 about why people were late for work at the trade centers
A lot of people say they were late for work that morning because of staying up late watching the MNF Giants/ Broncos game and they slept later than they usually did.

They were 15-18 stories above the water.
And I saw it reported that the water's current temp would cause lose of feeling in extremities within 5-10 mins and loss of consciousness within an hour.

Could you imagine the traffic cluster if this was in BR
You’d have to get around the traffic using the loop.

No one who fell almost 200 feet into the water survived the impact. You could survive if you were on the deck that hit the water first.

49* water. Definitely very cold. It was 41* outside they said, so they all likely had cold weather gear, construction boots, etc.
A lot of things working against those guys.

No idea. But allegedly these are pics from a first responder
Looks like they did indeed drop anchor at some point. You can see it in second pic.
