You can still receive significant damage and week or longer power outages from a Cat 1. It's almost like you guys have never experienced a hurricane before.

I have like 3 dozen of stores, bars and restaurants within a 2 mile radius of where I live so I think I'll be ok...plus I have my own supply and neighbors.

Houston has a large population area, with many power poles. More poles and power lines equates to a larger area for wind to disrupt power distribution.

Not the case with most of the Southeast coast.
