I’m fine with other people being government lemmings, but my kids aren’t getting a single vaccine. They haven’t been sick enough to miss a single day of school. No way I’m putting them at risk.
Leave that style trolling to el Gaucho.

What you want here much discussion on regarding vaccines and disease is how the illegal immigrant population is also impacting this situation. No matter what your opinion is of the immigration issue, having millions of people arrive without the same vaccine history is not insignificant.

One post, this name and this post. Definitely not a troll.

This isn’t entirely correct. The concept is herd immunity. Nothing is perfect and even in situations where immunizations are given, the immune system may not work as robustly and the response to the vaccine may not be sufficient. The idea of herd immunity is that, if everyone is vaccinated, those who either cannot be vaccinated or have an insufficient response to the vaccine will have their infection risk reduced significantly since the infection is unable to move freely around the population.
Thanks. That was my understanding of it. I'm not an expert so thanks for clearing it up.

so less sick people leads to less sick people?

Probably trumpkins who didn’t vaccinate their kid. Trumpkins are pretty stupid
That is also noted in many studies involving Canada and many Los Angeles wealthy school districts.
The ones that politically fall right tend to be the heavily religious groups, and they tend to shun doctors entirely.

Well this thread is full on OT ignorant mode.
Vaccines are important, but babies contracting meningitis is so rare that the CDC does not recommend the vaccine unless they are immune compromised.
This baby probably had one of those issues. Most kids do not get the meningococcal vaccine until they are older.
This is probably just an unfortunate event that doesn't have to have a scapegoat. And there's nothing wrong with putting an unvaccinated (meningococcal) 4 month old in daycare. Again, this is extremely rare.

How does Scruffy shot shame parents in his practice and does he immediately throw them out the door to protect the other patients.
Or does Scruffy not deal with children and their filth?

Reminds me of this article I saw.
I really dislike anti-vaxxers.

quote:
carolinehirons*swipe across- When our son was rushed to the emergency room last summer in a convoy of two ambulances and four paramedics (they sent for the main team because Dan was so dehydrated that the initial paramedic couldn’t find a vein), he had a raging fever and was hallucinating. He couldn’t see us when we were leaning over him. He felt his body shutting down. The team worked on him for over 15 minutes in the ambulance before they were cleared to ‘move off’. When we arrived at the hospital they immediately quarantined us and put him in critical care. Four IV drips. For 48 hours. He spent a week quarantined in the critical care unit - in the dark, because the crushing migraine he had for three weeks would not leave, even with morphine. His fever took a week to come down within normal range, even with the best of modern medicine available. At the time he was a 23 year old man, fitter than most, who played football for approx 4 hours a day. Mumps felled him. He lost over two stone in weight. Without intensive medical intervention he would not be here. Now imagine he was a baby. Or someone with a compromised immune system. When I see people like @thekatvond using their platform to promote raising her unborn child ‘without vaccinations’, I want her and the drones of ill-advised people underneath, including @kandeejohnson to see and know that this is the reality of ‘benign diseases’. You have the absolute unbelievable arrogance of a ‘choice’, because the rest of us responsible people/parents DID vaccinate. These diseases were almost gone, now they are back because some people think they know better than all the scientists, physicians and specialists in modern science. As I said in my post last year, vaccinate your kids. Or keep them the hell away from mine. (I took endless pictures of Dan in hospital to keep Jim up to speed as he had stayed home with our younger, traumatised kids. Dan gave his full permission for me use the picture and tell the story in detail. He’s our hero. And no, I am obviously not talking about you if you are unable to have the vaccines. You are who the rest of us should be trying to protect.)

Unvaccinated and undocumented most likely

You start vaccines at 6 weeks to 8 weeks (~2 months).
Meningitis vaccines are not given that young, I’m pretty sure. Once again why herd immunity is so important.

I remember having to give LSU a copy of my immunization record. Is this no longer required?

They do get the pneumococcal vaccine which protects against Step pneumo meningitis.
Strep pneumo is the most common meningitis bacteria for that age group.
The previous poster that Scruffy agreed with is correct in that they don't receive the meningococcal vaccine at this age.
Scruffy didn’t read the article to see if they determined the bacteria.
