I don’t think the sound is that deep. Wonder if low tide put it on its side.

Has to be a fake pic, if that’s from today those women would be drinking White Claws.

They’re reading about the capsized ship on Facebook

More photos
It's a "Roll on, Roll off" style of ship. Essentially a floating parking garage. I can only imagine the tangled mess inside its hold

The St Simons sound is "shallow" relatively speaking. The water just to west of where the ship capsized is no more than a 1-2' deep at low tide...trust me I got stuck coming out of Plantation Creek on low tide not too far from where the ship is. Not uncommon to see many fishing/recreational boats stuck at low tide all the time. Seatow membership and good electronics/gps is a must. Channel is very narrow and runs maybe 55-60' at mean low tide.

23 plus the pilot? Interested to find out just what was happening in the prior 30 mins to the event. Someone is in it deeper than the ship is....

Cool that they got them but ship is on the surface.

Thank you Eagleeye. You saved my gettin out my nav charts.
now about those depths of chanel.
Surely someone checked depth after the storm passed.
Anyone who knows the outer banks ferries up in NC knows that even small storms can move masses of sand and cause the ferry routes between the outer islands to make massive shifts. I remember the fifteen minute ride down to Ocracoke one summer lasted over an hour the next summer because the depths had changed dramatically. (Anybody remember an intro Geology lab workbook with before and after photos?)
From the get go, I've thought the channel shoaled up and nobody noticed.
For the guys on the ship, it would have been comparable to uptown NOLA after Katrina when neighbors took turns biking to where the water was and a giant sigh of relief when it stopped risings.

Reminded me of the movie The Poseidon Adventure.

The ship had 24 people on board, including 23 crew members and one pilot, the Coast Guard said.
These are South Koreans, so I have to wonder if the pilot was female.

That story makes my stomach turn. Only thing you can do is wait and stay sane.
