That little gold coloured pipe cleaning looking thing was kind of stuck in the helmet in the liner, almost like it could have been a sort of talisman or something. I think it was in Band of Brothers where they put the Edelweiss in their helmet or uniform for good luck - It has a gold ball (almost like a single Mardi Gras bead) attached to the end of it. I will post a picture when I get a chance. It seems more American to me than European so I’m thinking the previous owner may have put it in there and not the German soldier.

Honestly I’m German / Swiss heritage primarily and am not ashamed to say that this is really a fun day that I will always remember

Holy cow! What an incredible find.

I would have been exploring an old attic as soon I got the keys.

I feel like this was a good reminder to always choose to be adventuresome instead of putting it off. I think this was a great day - I found something that got my heart racing and immediately became one of my top 20 possessions. And I think I learned the aforementioned lesson.

it was so dusty up there I actually asked my ex girlfriend for a mask. She thought I was trolling her and shook her head and turned back around I was like “no, seriously I want one”

I might keep the ouija board away from that helmet.

how much for a Jap officer's sword taken on Tarawa? My grandfather was part of the 2nd Marines there. We know it was mfr'ed early in the war, pretty decent shape.

SirWinston finding Nazi gear is too convenient. You sure that’s not yours you forgot you put up there?

What an awesome find.

When I bought my house, the previous owner told me that he thought there may be some old WWII stuff in the attic that he didn't bother to clear out.

I immediately went up the a searched every corner.

I did find some old 1970's mug shots - all afros, beards, and butterfly collars - but no WWII stuff.

Which was disappointing. But I did re-insulate the attic while I was up there.

The Shin Gunto? Definitely going to need some pics on this one... Way too many variables... Maker, Condition, Date. Temper...

But I will say this... They can get up to high dollar...

Post some pics and we can go from there.

I have a German army helmet I assume my grandfather brought back. Regular grey color with eagle and swastika emblem on one side. Has a wool sweat band, no leather liner.

Edit Emblem looks to be the white Luftwaffe eagle.

I seriously doubt it - he was a prominent Mormon who did USO tours all over the world so I'm thinking it was probably something he acquired while in Europe. We've found some cool stuff obviously but in a way I was hoping for even more.

My (now) ex fiancee definitely rolled her eyes and said something about this being proof that the energy you put out into the world finds you.
