Fort Polk aka Tiger Land was where they sent soldiers to train for Vietnam. Due to the terrain and conditions. It was the closest we could get to Nam.

I worked at Ft. Polk a couple of summers during that time installing tank crossing pads, that place was a buzz of activity, felt bad for those kids, they were so "gung ho," I was just wondering how many would be dead or maimed within six months, also was thinking that it could be me in another year or two

In before "I'll Polk you with my Johnson".....

Change it to whatever you want, as long as I never have to return. The longest five years of my life was the three months I spent at Polk.

Is this named after Jay Johnson?
They could at least wait until after the World Series.

Ngl I always thought it was named after President James K Polk.
It was named after Leonidas Polk...who was a Tennessee General...had it been named after President James K. Polk...it would have been named after a US President from Tennessee...now it is named after a distinguished veteran from North Carolina...why wouldn't a fort in Louisiana be named after a distinguished veteran from Louisiana. There are plenty of MOH winners from LA.

No the "'Nam Village" in Tiger Land is no longer there. Unit Training remains there, of course, and, the mock villages for training are still in the area, of course.

76 years after the Civil War, a fort was named after Polk.
82 years after that, the left wants to rename it because Polk fought for the confederacy (in addition to the Union previously).
The left always says "the south is still fighting the civil war".
Who is really still fighting the civil war right now?

Thank god the Army spent $21 million on renaming bases while thousands of enlisted soldiers are currently living in barracks with mold and no A/C.

This is probably the dumbest one.
This is ISIS shite trying to erase history and context.

When I was in it was Ft. Polk and I will continue to use names of all installations as they were originally.

My father trained there and I lived somewhere around there when I was first born. My mom has pictures. Damn shame they can’t leave things alone.

Ah, my first duty station. Spent a couple years there in the late late 90s.
I mentioned in another thread I find it funny being renamed Johnson. The Army wants to let you know you're still getting fricked there.
An old Army buddy of mine requested to go back to finish his 20 and retired a few years ago. He still lives near post, I should give him a ring.

I was stationed there for 3 years before this Korea rotation, and I’m heading back to Polk in a few months and will retire there. For those that don’t know, Ft. Polk has north Polk and south Polk. Word on the street is it will now be referred to as big Johnson and little Johnson
