DERIDDER, La. (KALB) - Former DeRidder Mayor Misty Roberts has been released from jail after serving her 90-day sentence stemming from her conviction earlier this year.

State records confirm Roberts was released September 7.

Roberts was convicted in March for having sex with a then-16-year-old boy at a 2024 house party while she was serving as mayor.

In June, Judge Kent Savoie sentenced Roberts to 90 days in jail, a $5,000 fine and two five-year suspended sentences.

quote:

The sentence drew strong reactions from some DeRidder residents, who said they believed the punishment was too lenient.

“When it comes to children, we should use the fullest extent of the law,” DeRidder resident Kari McGee previously told KALB.

In August, the Beauregard Parish District Attorney’s Office filed a motion asking Savoie to reconsider Roberts’ sentence.

That hearing was held August 31. Savoie denied the state’s request to reconsider the sentence, leaving Roberts’ original sentence in place.

I think that’s adequate punishment. Now if she does it again, the punishment should be more severe of course!

Part of the blame on her getting out, in the male attitude.

Fist pumping over this. frick that. If it was a man, you would be calling for his castration. And wanting him labelled as a pedo.

It's a broad and it's woot woot hell yeahs

agree in general, but i dont know that it's the "male attitude" to blame exactly. more like society in general and how we few women.

the crime should be the crime regardless of the victim. murdering someone who is 98 years old isnt considered a more forgivable crime than murdering someone who is 20 years old, despite a huge disparity in the impacts to the victim. why should underage rape be different?

In all seriousness, doing this WHILE BEING THE MAYOR is certainly a life choice for sure. Good Lord.

Talked to a family member of the "victim" yesterday and they are going to court again. The judge gave her sentencing based on previous cases that took a plea deal. She didn't take a plea deal and got the same sentencing. They are going to try and get her in there longer.

Not sure there is a legal avenue to have someone who completed their sentence sent back to jail. I believe she would have to violate her Parole to have that happen.
