DALLAS - A Dallas County grand jury decided on a murder indictment for former Dallas police officer Amber Guyger. Guyger shot and killed her neighbor Botham Jean in early September. She told investigators that after finishing her shift, she returned home in-uniform and parked on the fourth floor of her apartment complex's garage, rather than the third floor, where her unit was located, according to an affidavit prepared by the Texas Rangers. She said she got to what she thought was her apartment - Jean's was directly above hers - and found the door ajar. She opened it to find a figure standing in the darkness. She said she pulled her gun and fired twice after the person ignored her commands.

Wow, I saw where manslaughter was expected. This whole thing is fishy.

This is confusingly worded. Did she say she parked on four instead of three yet her car was found on three? Meaning she lied about where she parked.
Or did she actually park on four, said she parked there, and that's also where they found her car? Meaning she was confused and her story isn't necessarily a lie.

I believe her story is that she parked on the 4th floor by mistake. She lived on the 3rd floor.

good, that one didn't sit right with me from Day 1.

That's my understanding as well.
She's 100% in the wrong ...
Bad situation all around but I can see how she initially mistook her apartment. These apartments are identical from floor to floor, same location on each floor, one directly above the other one. How many times have you got off the elevator on the wrong floor? Factor that in after a a 12hr shift and I can picture it happening.
Sucks for all parties involved.

Right. I highly doubt she just decided to murder the man who lived on the floor above her. It was a tragic mistake. Should be something more like negligent homicide.

Sucks the newspapers ran headlines saying the kid had drugs in his apartment because the cops wrote reports about finding a little weed.

Or they thinks she's lying about the whole thing and murdered the guy.

just like how people were trying to demonize the kid that the police wrongfully shot in alabama last weekend

I’m not sure what happened, but have been some indication that her story does not hold water. Maybe that’s why the charge?

Unless there is more to the story, then she should be charged with negligent homicide and serve about 5 years.

She will plead down to manslaughter.

Maybe a few times, but it never resulted in me shooting someone. I don't buy her story, I'd be willing to bet she has a prior relationship with this guy which resulted in this situation
