Former students always came back to visit him even though they were in college. As a high schooler, I just thought that was the coolest damn thing.

Very true. I forgot about that. I had him for seventh hour and there were always former students coming in. His class was the the end of the hall on the first floor, next to the side entrance. They would just come in through that door and to his class.

I was class of ‘97.

My daughters had him for both logic and philosophy and they loved him and his classes. I met him several times and thought he was the classic example of a college prep instructor...respected his students and expected high performance and creative thinking.

i knew people that would know you. In wonder if they will discontinue logic and philosophy. He taught classes at LSU as well.

RIP Mr. Barber...

The brick fell off the truck and the horse ate him were two of my favorite stories.

Anyone know what happened? Saw in the obit that donations to American Heart Association were requested in lieu of flows.

Any time I ever see a Monty Python reference, I think of him.

I had him for philosophy in 11th grade and Logic in 12th. I didn't grasp philosophy very well but was much better at logic. When I think back to high school, those two classes stand out as ones I actually gained something from.

I don't know how he passed.

I didn't go to Brhs but a friend who took his class got punched in the face often in the neighborhood by bullies.

Probably because he used that voodoo logic he learned in Barber's class.

My teachers at BRHS were good. Ms. McDaniel, Ms. Kennedy were great. Coach Helveston was funny. Mr. Resetar was a trip. Gerace, Devries, and Atherton I could do without. Ms. Craig for latin was cool as hell.

You just sparked a memory. Once when I was there, some a-hole came to campus from another school to visit his girlfriend. Mr Barber saw an unfamiliar person on campus and questioned him, and the thug punched him in the face. Such a nice guy and he gets punched in the face!

I had one teacher there that moved the class outside because it was so nice. She said she would be right back and we all watched her walk to her car, get in and drive off. She never came back.

He's my favorite teacher at any level of school. Not many schools have logic & philosophy at the high school level, his classes were fantastic.

Think his health was failing for awhile (heart issue).
