I'm done buying American autos, except for 3/4 & 1 ton trucks.
Not just because of quality, but because frick the UAW and unions in general.

I would love to, but alas I will only drive Toyota until such a time.

Not only are they built in America by American workers, but often the part content is more American than “American” vehicles. It is no longer patriotic to buy “American” vehicles, because they are often more foreign than American.

I like my vehicles how I like my Axis powers - German and Japanese; the Italians can frick off unless I win the lottery.

What kind of dumb question is this??

Country of origin is irrelevant to me when purchasing a vehicle.
When I am purchasing a vehicle, I am looking for a brand that is historically reliable with little to no major maintenance that is offered at a competitive price.
I give zero fricks about where the company resides or where the vehicle was produced.
ETA: If the above criteria is equal across the board, then I'm going to weigh aesthetics heavily. But again, country of origin is still irrelevant.

I have been driving a 2014 Ford F-150 since 2015 when my 2001 Tundra was wrecked. I have been very pleased with it.
That Tundra ran like a top for over 7 years, though. Never any major issues. Besides consumables, I replaced two oxygen sensors. Miss it.

This is the only sane answer.

There are three American cars I would consider buying as a DD:
GT500
Camaro ZL1 1LE
Corvette Z06
*Ford GT but they wouldn't sell me one because I am nobody
The problem is there are foreign cars I like better.
Outside of a DD I mainly look for reliability because our non-DD tend to stick around for a long time, it is just hard to beat Lexus in that department.

My wife had a highlander from 04-13, only reason we gave it up was that it was a hybrid and we were worried about replacing the battery as it was at 180k miles. We then got an explorer.
By 60k miles or so it had noticeably began riding poorer despite consistent upkeep. By 90k it was clearly going to shite.
We got another highlander. I don’t think I’ll ever buy another non Toyota.

What is an American car? A Ford has the most "American-made" parts at 65%.
In the end, the Kaizen philosophy used by companies such as Toyota leads to a better product.

Chevy made them in America again
You do realize not all of their trucks are made in Silao right? They still make trucks in Fort Wayne and Flint.
And Toyota shifted Tacoma production to Mexico. I know the Tundras are produced in Texas, but the quality doesn’t seem as good as the last generation. I guess we could argue that about all of these brands though

I’m very happy with my Mercedes and Lexus.
Zero interest in buying an American car ever.
Its been over 20 years since I’ve owned one and I never will again.

I have a nephew that works at the new Toyota/Mazda plant here in Huntsville, AL. He tells me that he has never seen any factory be so obsessed with quality control.

I don't necessarily think American cars are crap. I just grew up with my parents having nothing but japanese vehicles and they've never had issues so I followed suit.
I haven't had any issues as well so I have no intention of switching.
