You won’t notice a difference.
This is bad advice. I've owned both, the 2.7L does not compare to the 3.5L in terms of torque & towing.
IMO, if you intend to haul a lot and it's typically larger loads, i'd go with the 3.5L. If you are looking for reliability with minimal towing, i'd go 2.7L.

Toyota...perhaps but jury is still out on the new motors
I just bought a 21 Tundra with the old motor. The truck is like new and best of all, I didn't have to take the gigantic financial hit of buying it brand new. I didn't have enough trust in the new ones to drop that kind of coin on one.
I'm with you on the GMC/Chevy and the Dodge's though, I always hear a lot of bad things about those, and especially the Fords. I know three people with a Ford F150 and two of them have dropped thousands of dollars into them shortly after purchasing, which is why I said not to buy a Ford. They're not all shite, though.

OP clearly said "light hauling and minimal if any towing" so it wasn't bad advice at all under those conditions.

Good info all around here.

I've been a Toyota fan for alot years. We have had several cars and suvs, never had one of their trucks, but I'm skeptical of the new engine. One thing I feel pretty certain of though is that Toyota will get it figured out. They always do.

This would be for light hauling & minimal if any towing. We have the 3.5L in our Expedition Max - am I going to notice the difference?
2.7. It has, thus far, been shown to be much more reliable than the past examples of the 3.5. If you don't need the extra towing.. absolutely the 2.7.

Run form 2.7. Am on my 4th F-150. The only one I’ve had any issues with engine-wise? The 2.7.
My dealer guarantees “engines for life”. They had to put a factory $10k engine in it at about 150k miles. I promptly sold it and moved back to the 3.5.
Also, didn’t save me hardly anything on gas. Very marginal. 3.5 is the Ecoboost sweet spot.

The 3.5 sounds "better" IMO
That might be fake. Ford has definitely been pumping "v8 sounds" into the cabin by way of the stereo system for years.
They are certainly not alone.
What a clown world we live in. We have "fake shifts" on CVTs. Fake hood scoops. Fake exhaust. Fake noises on the engine.
Pure stupidity.

I don’t know where you found it because that’s what I was looking for an a 21 crew cab with lowish miles and a decent trim was more today than the sticker in 2021. Especially the limited and 1794 models.

The magic date for the 3.5 is manufactured after August of 2022. The cam phasers have been replaced by then and they fixed a couple of issues with the 10r80 transmission that were causing problems…the last being the drum in August 2022.

Meanwhile, GM is going back to the 5.7 liter.
GM is building an engine that is 5.7 liters. The Vortec 350 isn’t coming back (unfortunately).

My buddy has a 2.7 with a tune and has over 250,000 miles with no issues. He pulls a toy hauler all over. I’ve had a 5.0 and now a 3.5. My 5.0 had the older 10 speed and started to act up when I sold it. My 3.5 is a 2024 and is smooth as butter.

I just bought a 2023 it’s 28,000 miles, 3.5. From what I’ve researched if you have a newer model, change the oil every 5,000 miles, change tranny fluid every 30,000 with replacing the filter every other time on tranny and you’ll get as much as you can with it.
Luckily I was under the original warranty so I’m going to buy an ESP from Flood Ford to extend to 100,000…so if anything fricks up it will be a Ford problem.
It’s a really nice truck but way over engineered. It’s hard to configure a truck that can be a daily cruiser, workhorse, tow 10,000 lbs, climb a mountain in low 4 and get decent gas mileage. All with electronics that want to drive it for you and wipe your butt.

I have a 2021 2.7 f-150
Good on gas and plenty enough power to tow. If you don’t care about money , get the V8 or 3.5, but if you’re on a budget like I am, the 2.7 is the way to go.
I tow a 2300 pathfinder (5000# with trailer and fuel) every other week with no issues.

Yea, I had to drive 300 miles to get it because they’re so fricking hard to find at a good price with under 100,000 miles and in good condition. I searched the entire month of March and finally bought it the last Saturday of the month.

Buy a Chevy Silverado 1500 with a 5.3 L and be done with it. You won’t be disappointed.

Already had the 5.3L with an AFM delete.
