Yup. Tesla’s products are largely shite but they positioned themselves as the brand for virtue signalers. Can’t blame him for cashing in on the pretentiousness of the arrogant and foolish.

Basically it will end up as a service vehicle which all I see Ubers drive now.

Will end up being RTB vehicles. (Return to base), and private service/delivery vehicles.

It’s just to much too fast.

Should’ve heavily pushed hybrids instead.

I don’t understand how this works. Consumer feedback has overwhelmingly become the desire for simpler less expensive cars. …yet so far the solution seems to be to combine the EV and ICE together and make an even more expensive vehicle.

GM seems to be more bullish on the EV front and Hyundai is surging ahead behind Tesla in the US.

There are going to be some big winners here when it all sorts out.

When you say you walked out for $28k, is that because you had a large down payment? Or because the government subsidized some amount of the purchase.

This is entirely my objection to any green initiative. In order for the numbers to work out for the consumer, the government has to spend our tax dollars to convince people to buy it. As a stand alone product, they're not economically viable. . . which means, in the long term, the project is not economically sustainable. And that is on top of the additional environmental hazards posed by the materials to mine and build the product along with disposal of spent cells.

Wow, it is almost like the market is going to work whether you try to subvert it or not. The demand isn't there. No matter how much taxpayer money the Fed dumps into EV manufacturing that fact isn't going to change anytime soon.

100%. EV's work for some, not nearly all.

Due to federal and state incentives. 7500 fed tax credit (so not technically out the door I had to wait 4 months to get credit) and 4000 from NJ that was off the sticker. I agree with you on the larger scale of the initiative not being sustainable. I saw an opportunity to get a basically free car for a commute I was going to have to do anyway so took it

didnt the CEO of Ford or Toyota or someone come out and say they can build 100 ICE cars for the cost of a single EV and like 25 hybrid for a single EV?

i'm sure those numbers are off, but i think the hybrid technology is pretty mature at this point and much cheaper to manufacture than 100% electric.

Oh no. Who is going to use all of those charging stations Biden has been bragging that he is responsible for?

All 7 of them? 4 of which actually work and the other 3, not so much? And how many billions did we “spend” on those?

Working on one, was supposed to add a second, but that has been paused for now. We will see if it ever actually happens.

I'm just surprised that some seem to be shocked that consumers are balking at this push by the left to FORCE this industry on them.

If they wanted them, they'd be buying them.

Aside from the fact the infrastructure doesn't currently exist, for most Americans, mandates are toxic. We are not European.

If that battery plant is a bust, there are going to be a shitload of empty houses and apartments in Hardin County.

As of last Monday, GM laid off a lot of battery and software people. Over 600 at their Warren facility and some in Atlanta and Austin. They are also losing their shirt in Europe and especially China, where they have a joint venture with SAIC.

Toyota was right. Hybrids are the way forward until some type of hydrogen / fuel cell technology is readily available.

I don't hate you for taking advantage of your tax dollars. I'd take every advantage of it as well. I didn't vote for it, but it's my tax dollars anyways. Might as well not piss it away if I have the opportunity and desire.

Was just curious if the purchase price was $28k with or without incentives.

Until a massive jump in EV tech appears, I think the current generation has about run it's course.

I think the key is battery tech.

Solid batteries are coming along in smaller form factors right now, though they can't yet outcompete lithium batteries from a price -to-performance just yet.

Give those some time and I think we will see drastic changes in EV ranges and charge times.
