Anyone have any experience with this motor?

Ive currently have a 3.5 and 5.0 f150. Love the performance of the 3.5. Love the simplicity of the 5.0.

Any advice/experience with it. Im intrigued.

I drive a 17 f-150 with the 3.5 and I have with 227k on the odometer and 1100 idle hours (equals about 35k miles). Cam phasers, coil packs, spark plugs are the only engine based repairs that have been done. Replace the oil and filter every 5-7k (I do 5k) and it'll live forever.

I have a friend that has a 2021 F150 with 90,000 miles on it. No repairs whatsoever. 3.5 eco boost

I’ve gotten 400k out of a 5.0 (older 2012 version with the lower compression ratio). My current 5.0 has about 230k, but got a new engine put in around 110k, it was eating oil. Wife has the 3.5 and we need cam phasers rebuilt, she’s got a bit over 100k. Performance wise the 3.5 is great, but I’ll stick to the 5.0, it’s got plenty and once you get up the rpm curve it really shines.

I have a 20 with 92k. I haven’t done shite. Love that engine. Only trouble I ever have with the truck is the radio. Nothing ever connects and it’s glitchy.

Cam phasers

If one was truly as diligent in their oil changes as you say, cam phasers is a pretty big job and not a testament to reliability.

Yeah, at 227k most vehicles will need some kind of major repair but still not a great selling point.

I'm equally as critical of:
-The current Toyota V35 V6 that can't seem to figure out how not to spin main bearings.
-The previous 2.5 gen 5.7L Tundra that will almost certainly experience valley cover leaks, timing chain tensioner issues, or cam tower leaks in the same time period (despite BabyTac's constant reminders of how reliable his has been). Source: I own a 2018 5.7....
-Or the Ford 5.0L that are notorious for consuming oil due to out of round cylinders due to spray-in cylinder liners.

In short, they are all a gamble and if one plans to keep them long term you better save up for major repairs.

Not without major repairs as you've experienced. Granted, good maintenance goes a long way and can buy you time.

Does it perform similar to the 3.5 eco? You have a experience with the two?

I drove a 2014 3.5 to 147k and then traded it in. Never had a problem and most of those were highway miles at either 62 or 78. Run a good synthetic, change regularly, and drive it like you stole it.

Most of the issues are with trucks that never get up to a decent operating temp and usually in town mileage.

Had a regular F150 with it as well as a Raptor. Cam phasers and timing chains killed both right after 100K. That’s the sweet spot for getting rid of one with the 3.5.

Nvm I don’t have a powerboost.

I drive a 2016 3.5 KR. Cam phasers and water pump are the only engine repairs. But the transmission went out at 90k miles.

Love the mpg from my truck. I’ve gotten 24+ on trips. No problems.
