frick the infinite work day. God it feels so good to take vacation and leave your phone on the night stand and not look at it until the end of the day
Yep. I had to program my phone to go into do not disturb at 9pm every night. My coworkers and clients are on a list that allows them to get it to ring if they call multiple times in a row pretty quickly after 9pm. I’m transparent with them about this. A vast majority give kudos to me when I explain it to them. The only person it’s ever bothered is the type that would call to ask what time it is…

not surprising in the least. I've been WFH for 20 years and there's a lot of great things I enjoy about it and could never go back to driving into an office every day
BUT...
It's not without it's pitfalls and this is one of the biggest of them

Almost 11pm now.
My day is technically 9-5 but I've been working since we put the kids to bed at 8pm.

. I work for the State, and June 30 is the last day of WFH per the governor. Starting July 1 everybody has to be back in the office full time. And people here are freaking the frick out about it. It's so weird to me that they are so bent out of shape because they have to come back to work.
A big issue with government workers WFH is they aren’t using sick and vacation like they would if they went to an office full time. Those unused days add up as retirement credit.

So people are now whining about work even when they don't have to GO to work?
That says a ton about where we are now.

You think they're going to pay people more money to do the same job? They didn't get to be executives and stock holders by being idiots.

The article references that productivity is up and hours are longer.
They are paying the same amount for increased productivity and longer hours.

It feels like I’m seeing this. Even though the newer generation of worker is WFH, they are also: “Hey, it’s after 5, it can wait.”

Funny enough, the same people who complain about WFH are the same people who complain about people not having kids.

I haven’t told a single soul I work with that we got internet at the camp after Ida. Also helps most majority don’t know much about Grand Isle these days.
“Sorry, guys, going to the camp and gonna be stuck out there in the marsh with no internet and hit and miss cell service.”

I've been working from home for about two decades. It works in my situation, in part because I have met most of the folks I interact with in person, so they are more than a face on a screen. It also works because of the nature of the business, and will not work in all situations.
And yes, I am very often checking email or doing something an hour or two before the workday officially starts, but then I may run an errand in the middle of the day or go watch my Tigers practice for a couple of hours and then come back. It's more about getting things done than sitting at a desk from 8-5.
I'd quit if I had to go back into the office full time. We also have unlimited vacation, which sounds good, but is kind of a scam. You have to get approval and we are always busy. I believe studies have shown that for good employees, it typically means that they take less time off -- and the company does not have vacation to roll over or pay out if they leave.

I don’t. It all shuts down after the work day is over. I don’t check emails either. Nor pm weekends. Work gets enough of my life 830 to 5.
