You learned to appreciate them. They were the last to get eaten, but it's still free candy. :)

And that thin arse, stretched out rubber band haphazardly stapled onto a brittle asbestos/lead paint mask.

Absolutely. My favorite was when I got this one…

This would have been about 1977-78. We got to wear our costumes to school. Of course you’d always do something like split the pants or break the rubber band on the mask while on the playground, which was a life altering disaster to a 7 year old.

I also remember going as Superman one year and the 6 Million Dollar Man another.

You had to put the mask in the candy bag after the 3rd house either because the rubber band came unstapled, the mask broke or you just flat out couldn't breathe anymore.

We didn’t have store bought. I was always a hobo. Took old khakis that were my dads and rolled up sleeves and legs to fit and tied a bandanna bindle on to a cane pole. Used a burnt cork to get that hobo eye look and Voila!
Candy gettin sumbitch!

I had the Underdog costume in Kindergarten. Also, still like those peanut butter candies in the black/orange wrapper. Don't understand the hate. Give me a while pile of them and I'll give you back a pile of wrappers.
