remains of Buford Pusser's wife, Pauline Pusser, were exhumed in February 2024, more than 50 years after her 1967 death, by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) to conduct a long-overdue autopsy.

Umm wouldn’t she be nothing but bones? How can you determine anything from that

If no autopsy was done at the time and she was put straight in the ground it's quite possible she would be nothing but bones and any bullets that lodged in her body at the time.

I'm not saying that's the case here, but they've clearly found something.

They've said they already gave her family closure after 6 decades. This means they're either announcing Bufford did it, or they found the guys that ambushed them.

I can tell you right now which way this is going to go.

I can also tell you the weapon turned into the TBI as the murder weapon belonged to Bufford. 100% fact.

I’m sorely disappointed this thread has gone for 2 pages and 2 1/2 hours and it falls to me to follow the gotdamned rules.

True story...Buford Pusser once beat the shite out of Jimmy Buffett. Buffett was in Nashville recording an album and staying at the hotel where the Tennessee Prosecutors Convention was being held.

A very drunk Buffett couldn't find his car in the parking lot, so he climbed up on the hood of a car while wearing golf shoes. The shoes scratched the hell out of the paint on the car, which just happened to belong to Pusser, who was at the convention. Pusser either caught Buffett on the car or found out he was responsible and whipped his arse.

It’s pretty odd that he gets a call at 4:30 in the morning by someone claiming there was a disturbance near the state line. And his wife decides to go with him. She gets shot in the head twice on separate occasions that night. First during the initial attack and then after he pulled over to care for his wife after he thought he lost the other cars but one found him again.

His death was suspicious as well.

quote:

Pusser was driving his own car, a specially modified Corvette, which struck an embankment at high speed on a return journey from the McNairy County Fair. The vehicle caught fire and was destroyed, but Pusser had already been ejected from it by the force of the impact and died of his injuries at the scene.

The local investigator who dealt with the accident claimed that Pusser had been drunk, was driving too fast, and had not been wearing a seat belt.

This state trooper later stepped into Pusser’s former shoes as Sheriff of McNairy County. Rather remarkably and even more suspicious, a post-mortem was never performed to establish the exact cause of Pusser’s death. Local and media speculation included stories that the car had been tampered with, specifically the steering or the tire rods.

Only people that didn't live or have family in that area think Buford was some upstanding citizen. He was a known corrupt piece of shite.

But I still don’t understand how he could shoot himself in the face to cover the murder. Not just one shot grazing his cheek either. That just sounds unbelievable

Pusser was an absolute piece of shite.

Too bad he could only die once exiting his 100 MPH vehicle hitting the highway embankment.

I’ve driven on the Buford Pusser memorial highway a few times. Guess they’ll be renaming that.

Okay…I always thought he was corrupt but didn’t realize it was that bad. Is there a book that details his corruption and shittiness that someone could recommend?
