This whole "real Louisiana" argument is tiresome.

Each region of Louisiana has pros and cons and they're all culturally different. Enjoy each for what it offers.

It is almost impossible to find good cajun sausage and any seasoning besides Tony's in the Ruston area. And for that, you are not really Louisiana.

Lafayette isn't any different from Lake Charles.

But the difference is a bit exaggerated

Lafayette and Lake Charles have lots of transplants due to the O&G industry and the petrochem industry. O&G moreso in Lafayette and petrochem moreso in LC. But outside of that, they draw in folks from the surrounding areas, which are mostly Cajuns. The proximity to Texas for LC pulls in more people who fall under the redneck banner. But if we are being honest, rednecks and Cajuns are kind of the same folks with different accents. I do find Cajuns to be generally a little friendlier, but I may be biased, being a Cajun myself.

I guess that when our state is dead last in everything, the only logical thing is to divide the state and argue about which part is worse. Imagine being from Lake Providence - the poorest parish in the worst state.

You are almost indistinguishable from rednecks in Mississippi and Alabama and it is eating you alive. Sad to see

Mostly cons for the whole state, if we're being honest.

We have a good supply of hard-working, educated, generous people, many of whom would help anyone in a time of need.

Unfortunately, we also have a large amount of lazy, uneducated people who are content to live off of government support and constantly bitch and moan about how poorly they are being treated.

For me, it isn't I-10 but the latitude line that separates south LA from south MS and just extend that all the way west to the Texas border. That then encompasses places like Mamou, Ville Platte, Eunice, and Opelousas. The only drawback is it also covers places like Bogalusa, Kentwood, and Clinton.

I grew up in south LA but have lived in the Bossier City/Shreveport area for the last 24 years. Some people up here can cook decently, but it is not the same. You are more likely to get tomatoes in your gumbo up here, jambalaya that has almost zero color on the rice, and no one up here seems to know what a sauce piquant is. And don't get me started on the holier than thou Baptist crowd up here. And as someone else pointed out, it's a 3+ hour drive to get to Tiger Stadium and 4+ to get to NOLA for Mardi Gras, Superbowl, or other major social event.

You sound like a Texan, which isn’t surprising. Texas is fine, but it ain’t Louisiana. The same can be said about north LA. You have your own culture up there. There’s no reason to pretend it’s anything like South LA.

Most N LA people have those fat, rosy rednecky cheeks you see on people from Alabama and Georgia. And you talk like hillbillies. And there's too many Longhorn and Cowboy stickers on truck windows.

Everything north of Alec needs to be auctioned off to Arkansas, Mississippi and Texas.

South Louisiana has just as many shite holes as North Louisiana you are correct there. However the south has culture. Not just Cajun culture. It also has strong creole and italian roots. It’s just a big melting pot of cultures.

Don’t get me wrong North Louisiana has some nice spots with great topography such as Toledo Bend but generally it’s much more synonymous with the rest of the Southeast. It definitely has influenced the overall culture of the state though. That mix of Deep South heritage combined with South Louisiana melting pot culture is extremely unique.

I just wish everyone would learn to appreciate both sides. Both regions contribute to the overall fabric that makes Louisiana special.
