It’s The Church of Christ, that told my friends that you’re an Alter boy, come here and serve Jesus.

I got a “No religion posts” private message from the TD gods this week.

Understood. Appreciate. Respect.

…Until this string. TD gods need confession. My booth is now open, sons.

I was a Catholic convert at 58 years old. Knew next to nothing about Catholicism until I went through RCIA (now OCIA). I had been to exactly one mass in my life.

I’ve observed and been told by cradle Catholics in my parish that many who grew up in the Church don’t have much of a grasp on doctrine and theology. Most were poorly catechized. Unfortunately, it seems young Catholics are just expected to accept things and not really come to a deep understanding of their own faith.

My best friend of 40 years who led me to become Catholic will tell you I know a thousand times more Bible than he does. He’s always surprised when I routinely quote Bible verses in the middle of conversations. That’s a product of Protestant focus on Bible study and memorization.

I still haven’t made it through the Catechism but I’m gonna start Father Mike Schmitz’s Catechism in a Year someday soon.

That’s bullshite. Admins very exist now unless they disagree.

I’ve stated my take as a Catholic my entire life. And, it’s not good. I struggle more explaining why.

The Irish nuns definitely brought the wrath
—Those fresh-off-the-boat Cuban exile nuns in the 60’s didn’t mess around either.

“The Church is there waiting for you to come back, friend.”

Will never happen.I listed several things that discouraged me from Catholism, there are many more,I don’t have time to write a book.I’ll just say this,my 12 years in Catholic schools left a bad taste in my mouth.
Besides all that I don’t believe in Purgatory and all that’s associated with it like saying novenas to buy off time in purgatory or donating money to get a priest to offer a,mass to reduce someone’s sentence.

“but it does teach that you’ll burn in hell if you die when you’re two days old and aren’t baptized yet”

That is absolutely not true. What they taught was that if a child died without being baptized they went to Limbo which was not heaven nor hell.I guess it could be onsidered akin to suspended animation.Would not suffer in hell but would never know the glory of God or heaven.

If a baby was a stillborn or if were in danger of impending death after being born any Catholic was authorized to baptize the child if a priest was not readily available.
I was taught that for years in catechism classes then at some point it was like”oops, there is no such thing as limbo”.

I think the position of the Church now is that all children go to heaven, baptized or not,if they haven’t reached the age of reason at the time
they die.

Does all of that not sound absolutely asinine to you? If someone doesn’t splash some water or oil on a dying babies head its soul goes to purgatory? I couldn’t possibly put myself in a mindset to believe that

Transubstantiation. That’s all you need to know. With that everything is made perfect.

Every lesson taught seems to be a lesson in morality.

Doing the right thing. Character. Kindness toward people.
Love. Importance of family.

Live a purposeful life.

That is what I took away from it after 13 years of catholic private schooling and mass on Sunday growing up.
