For those living in an HOA with pool(s)

What is your HOA doing with all of the money saved by not hiring lifeguards this summer?
Shocking to see how much they spend. Most of it is insurance coverage.

The pool in our neighborhood has never had a lifeguard.

Today I learned HOA pools have lifeguards where Rouge lives.

Our hoa pays for a lifeguard but we have no pool.

The old creepy guy who hangs out by the old above ground poll in your trailer park is not a life guard.

OUr neighborhood pool has lifeguards this summer, but it's separate from the HOA with separate dues and memberships.

Our hoa management company is straight ripping us off. They claim it costs 80k a year to maintain and insure the community pool. I wouldn't even wanna know what they'd charge for a lifeguard.
They also have chuck in a truck cleaning it and it's never clean and almost always something wrong with it. If it is clean there's so much chlorine in it the water burns you. It's pretty sorry.
It cracked 2 summers ago and they hired a company to fix it. They poured a foot of concrete on the bottom and made it a foot shallower.
I hate hoa management companies. We got a pool put in in our backyard and don't even bother with it.

My daughter is a UGA student and lifeguard in the Summer for a neighborhood pool.
She makes 15 an hour and works 35 hours a week.
Of the 7 hours a day she works she spends 1 hour cleaning the pool and the restrooms and pool house.
It is a great job for a college kid.
The HOA would have to pay someone to clean the pool area everyday anyway so it works out.

Once upon a time I was a member of the Tara pool. I still get their emails. It appears they have lifeguards this summer. I think they reduced fees, increased open hours, and increased the open times in the fall as well.

Our neighborhood only has 74 houses. HOA is $500/year. That's $37k a year for the HOA. They maintain common area landscaping/grass and the pool with that. Our pool is probably smaller than yours, but still, that is a rip.
You guys should take control of the HOA from whoever runs it, then hire a new company that works for you. If your land developer still runs the HOA board, they are likely lining their pockets with your money, and hiring an HOA company run by their golf buddy.

If you can't swim, then don't go into the pool

I belong to a swim and tennis club, not an HOA.
They are trying like hell to hire lifeguards. A big problem was the red cross, who trains them, wasn't doing training for a while, but I think they have started.
We now have at least one lifeguard on duty all day Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. We have one most evenings Monday - Thursday, but not always, and we rarely have one during the day on Monday - Thursday.
