Extremely impressive radar signature. This storm is passing southeast/east of Manhattan, Kansas.

Is there any confirmation of anything on the ground?

It was a confirmed large and extremely dangerous tornado earlier. The rotation has weakened some now but is still tornado warned.

Yea saw the warning but saw it was radar indicated. That area is relatively sparsely populated south of I 70. Hopefully damage was minimal

This storm has weakened significantly now. Hopefully we don’t see anything else like this tonight.

Wow that’s just a beautiful yet disturbing supercell in OP. Just textbook stuff right there. Tornado alley usually does this

Radar hunting season it is.

Impressive wrap up. It headed north as it occluded near the radar. Took an abrupt turn.

ETA: Reed got it and the video is on YouTube now.

Yeah, it is a better environment for giant hail than for tornadoes. The tor threat was more conditional.

Tomorrow should be a better setup for tornadoes just a bit east of tonight.

My phone wouldn't shut up with the tornado/hail warnings during the K-state game. Not now damnit!

Apparently the Civil Preparedness people in Topeka do not own a map of Shawnee County. Around 8:30pm they set off the tornado sirens here for a tornado that was north of Rossville and moving northeast. For the non-Kansans reading this that means they set off the sirens for a tornado 20 miles northwest of Topeka and moving out of the county and away from the city. Never even rained here.

That happened here in Wichita during the last Andover tornado. Sirens were going off in West Wichita while the storm was over Andover and moving NE. I think since it included a small bit of Sedgwick county they just fired them off over the whole county

A lot of tornado siren systems are county wide systems, despite the fact that tornado warnings are polygons and don’t typically include a whole county. Those old school siren systems sound if any part of the county is under a warning. That’s how NOAA weather radio still is, too.

Even the ones that are supposed to be warning area specific frick up more often than not. I don't know what/where the disconnect is.

Yea it's not at all unusual for sirens in the whole county to go off in these situations

Feel like we are dodging a bit of a bullet tonight. High of 81 in March and storm system approaching......gonna be some strong stuff but nothing crazy. Usually in Tennsippibama that spells trouble
