I was so relieved when I woke up and saw that I hadn’t sent any regrettable DMs

If you focus on 1 day at a time it’ll be less intimidating.
I drank hard for 26 years.
My last days of drinking I had an 18 day bender. I had stopped eating dinner and just drank vodka instead. Woke up one morning with heavy DT symptoms and a nasty panic attack. Scared the crap out of me.
I went to AA the next day and haven’t picked up a drink since. Coming up on 4 years sober.
Are you me? I swear, I could make that exact same post and every word would be true. DT's, vodka, scared, 4 years sober on June 18th.

Good luck man. I don’t black out like others on here have before, but have drank heavily the past 3 years almost every day. Was in a dark place and used alcohol to escape and not commit suicide. Now it’s just a part of life. Slowly doing better, trying to discover other ways to deal with hard issues. Again, good luck OP and hope the best for you. Addiction is a bitch.

Oceans? Its legit

Good for you. I recently made the decision to only drink on the weekends, and I think that may have been a mistake, since I go HAM on the weekends, as opposed to just having several beers most nights. So I guess I'm either looking for balance, or figuring out if I just need to quit. 2 months is my sober record, but that was after a particularly nasty event. Godspeed to you, and don't feel discouraged if your first attempt doesn't work out like you want it to.

Seems like you’re about to inherit a lot more money than your parents. Keep it up.

90 days is the right move. I dont know how people can do it in 30 day programs.
I did 107 of 90 days.
If you know the alcohol and drugs own you and you can’t shake it, you’ll be fine. Give up, surrender, and admit that while you make your own decisions, you make a mess of things. Time for someone else to think for you.
It worked for me and millions of others.
I stopped making my own decisions and started taking suggestions from others on March 28, 2012.
It’s true what I was told: life and all the events I enjoyed drunk, are 1000% better now without alcohol. You can’t imagine it so don’t even try, you just have to live it and have hope it can be that way for you.

It’s amazing how similar our stories can be. I also relate to people in recovery who I have nothing in common. Helps me stay sober knowing I’m not alone.

did you have a hard time getting rid of friends? Or not even friends just party buddies. I worry about that.
You’ll learn what real friends are.
You have them and they’ll still be in your life and care about you. The rest are drinking and using buddies and they will disappear from your life like fart in the wind.
Don’t think about that right now. It works itself out without you lifting a finger to do anything about it. It’s magical.

“Hope” is believing it can happen for you since it’s happened for millions of others.
When it starts to happen your “hope” turns into “faith.”
Right now, all you need is that hope. Hold on to it. Believe it. Feel it.

I hit rock bottom in August 2016. 10 years of almost daily cocaine use and binge drinking. I got arrested, lost my job and almost lost my family. Did an intensive outpatient treatment locally here in SC for about 6 months. Almost 4 years sober.

Cigars almost did me in. I was smoking 7 or 8 sticks a day at one point. Thank God for Corona virus. It scared the shite out of me and I quit cold turkey. Haven't had a stick in 3 months.

started drinking a month before i turned 15.
stopped drinking a month before i turned 59
every weekend at least and at end pretty much every day...
could see my retirement years were going to be in a bottle if i did not make changes...
knew it was a matter of time before i would end up a joke on a internet clip..
first months were very awkward...
first year very hard
after about three years i became comfortable but everyday requires effort .....
good luck!!

Any success stories on here? Wouldn't mind hearing them if you got em
You have my support brother. Just take things one day at a time. You’re gonna have to make a lot of changes in your current lifestyle, including friends. I’ve been sober for 32 yrs. Put myself in treatment when I was 19. I realized I had problems when I stole 5-6 vials of zylocane from the dentist and shot them up in my mouth to get high. And the time I was playing quarters with my friend 11:00am., and the loser had to drink a shot of tequila with a Soma in it. I drank 17 shots before we ran out of pills. Somehow, I managed to make it to the bathroom and forced myself to throw up. Probably saved my life since I passed out later that afternoon. Sadly, I’ve buried 3 friends who OD’d and left their children fatherless. Even with 32 yrs of sobriety, I still get the urge to get Fk’d up. I live by the Serenity Prayer daily and share my testimony with others which helps me stay sober today. Reach out to me if you have any questions or need someone to talk to

I hit bottom. You will know it when you hit it and then it is much easier to cut out the booze.
