For people on here that got sober what was the final straw?
I've drank and drugged hard for over a decade. 12 is the most sober days in a row I've strung together in that time probably. Pitiful I know. Heading to rehab in two weeks for the first time. Pretty anxious about it because 90 days seems like a huge number. I'm 28 and just really frickin tired. Any success stories on here? Wouldn't mind hearing them if you got em.

I would but I’d have a Narcan marker on me just in case.

From all the stories I’ve read here over the years, expect and don’t be discouraged by a relapse the first few times you try. When it happens, shake it off, figure out why it happened and try to rectify that issue, and then start fresh with a new day 1

Good luck

A switch flipped in my brain. The very smell of alcohol triggered a migraine.

Took years for that to go away, by that time idgaf anymore.

Listen. You're 28. If you're tired now you'll be tired forever. No one here can talk you into sobriety. Choose it. It's up to you and you can do it.

Not saying I completely quit. But the night the Saints got screwed against the rams in the NfC championship game I just kinda thought, frick it I don't feel like drinking anymore. Didn't have a drink for about 3 months. Started to drink a couple here or there but nothing like before and took over a year to even buy alcohol for my house.

Went about 3 weeks without drinking during the "stay at home order" but when things started opening up again I've gone a little harder than I had been. But still rarely more than a couple in one outing.

re: For people on here that got sober what was the final straw?
Micro dosing Psilocybin is said to do the trick.

Anecdotal evidence from my experience - I was drinking practically everyday after work during quarantine. Couldn’t go to the store or gas station without picking up alcohol. Took shrooms over one weekend and by that Sunday the urge to drink had vanished for me. It’s not as though I’ve had severe drinking issues in the past, partly because I enjoy the gym and working out doesn’t mix with alcohol/hangovers, but I was spiraling out of control for the last couple of months with no motivation of pumping the brakes. Been about three week since my last drink. Don’t even miss it a tiny bit now that I’m working out again regularly and focusing on my diet. Hope this helps.

No it's a place in south Florida away from everyone. I'm blessed with great grandparents who are paying for it. They don't want me ending up like my old man rotting in prison.

I obviously don’t know you, but congratulations on making such such a great decision to get your health and life back! I wish you the absolute best of luck and will keep you in my prayers!

I’ve been 10 months sober after 5 years of intense drinking, and sobriety has been one of the best decisions I’ve made. I got tired of the huge drain and toll alcohol had taken on my health and life. 90 days seems like a long time to be away, but I think the longer you’re away from those substances, the easier sobriety may come to you.
Please keep us posted on your journey and your sobriety success! Best wishes, friend.
