Sort of like Carondolet St.
I knew a guy who moved to N.O. from out of state who used to try to correct locals on its pronunciation.
I appreciate the correction on this one because I always assumed it was pronounced Ver-row.
None of the french named streets in Nola are pronounced properly by the locals...even calliope, which I don't even think is french, is wrong...I remember saying the name for years and imagining a different spelling.

Stupid argument. This is what everybody says...
Ironically, the only person I've ever heard call it VehRoh is the DJ on 102.1, Tuna. I knew him in high school for a bit while we were both at Shaw...in Marerro.
No clue why the need for the faux French pronunciation of that...

I'm from Lafayette and I know the correct, french way is Vehr-row, but I grew up all of my life saying Vehr-Rot. I'm in a pointless debate with someone about this...what say you fellow Lafayette-ans?
Lafayette is about half full of Texicans, so it's no wonder they pronounce it Ver-ot.

Grandmother is from Youngsville. The family farm house where my great-grandmother was raised is still in the family. Many generations of my family buried in the church in Youngsville. Not from Laffy, but spent a lot of my childhood at that house and am familiar with the streets. Everyone in my family that I've ever heard pronounce it went with the apparent "overly french" pronunciation, vehr-row. I've always assumed that was correct (granted, until my grandmother, everyone's first language was french). I had never heard Vehr-rot until I worked with a guy who went to UL.

I've mostly said Veh-rot. Some people insist it's Veh-row. I don't feel strongly either way so I'll just say it however other people are pronouncing it.

Actually not many people say veh-row, I've heard more vay-row

i never thought abou tit until just now but i actually say it both ways
i say vehr-row when saying "They live off of Verot School road"
but i say vehr-rot when saying "they live off of verot"
This was my experience when I lived in Laffy.

I actually Google it just now and there's a short YouTube video of a guy (traffic reporter) asking around the office to see how everyone says it. It's a mix. First time I've ever heard vay-rot though (video and your post).

Don't hear vay-rot much but do hear vay-row a lot.

It's Veh-Rot. Anyone who says different is trying way too hard

I am 56 years old and lived in Lafayette from 1 year old until after college in the 80s. I remember it being pronounced both ways by the locals, my family included, but mostly rot.
