Being able to form a sentence is pretty important.

Very broad question. I put a lot of stock in the appearance of ones resume. You'd be amazed with some of the shite people will submit as a "professional resume". After I get an acceptable number of candidates that meet the criteria I'm searching for I will narrow that down to about 5-10 candidates. From there I will do interviews and choose mainly by gut feeling and credentials.

Usually when they start talking they will eventually tell you something and you'll be like (wow really in your head) that tips the scales to no.

Overrated.

My main curiosity ones from a recent interview. It was the department vp whose the hiring manager brought me in to interview with a few other managers. Just kinda odd how it played out. They were interviewing me for two different positions but they weren't and who makes the final decision.

I can tell you that I work with a lot of them, and it typically goes like this:

Phone screen, in-person, 2nd in-person with other key members of the team, one more if needed, and then an offer.

Is that the process that your referencing?

Hr calls they send me their resume. Leadership team reviews the resume and sets up 2 interviews one with the director and another with the leadership team. We discuss the two interviews after and compare notes. If we like the person we hire them if we don't we tell them no thanks we are going in another direction.

Basically what rummy said.

Resume' gets you in the door. Answering questions that you should know, and appearance give you a good shot. Personality separates you from the pack.

Even though I live in a major metropolitan area, there are only a few degrees of separation for everyone in my profession. I can make a few phone calls and usually get some Intel. In an interview, any whiff of cocky/overconfidence is a deal breaker.

Throw out detailed job description that would normally scare an applicant describing a ton of shite that the the position holder would really never do. Receive job applications and resumes and Toss out applicants that may be too smart or those that have odd names. Hire regular Joes after a phone interview. Basically it.

The more surface area their arse is covered by their pants and the least amount of visible neck tats usually gets my prospects to the front of the line.
