Why hockey pucks though? Baseballs or even rocks are easier to throw

Throw a bucket of pea gravel on the ground, and see how easy it is for a school shooter to walk the halls. While she's distracted, someone can run up and take her shoes. She won't go anywhere.
I'm thinking something like a stronger no-gun policy would work also

when something like that goes down, it is going to be fight or flight, most humans will choose flight in that case

No, it’s not the stupidest thing ever. Is it the most effective way to stop a shooter? Absolutely not. Is it better than doing nothing? Yep.
It sounds silly, but a class of high school students throwing rocks at one person coming through a doorway would likely be enough to either: 1. Make the shooter pick a different class room, or 2. Distract the shooter long enough to (hopefully) allow someone the opportunity to jump on him.
These shooters, particularly school shooters, are looking for easy targets. Don’t be an easy target.

Based on the first pitches I've seen in baseball, there is no way the average person can throw a hockey puck well enough to hit someone.

im guessing because hockey pucks can fit easily in your pockets unless you're wearing tight jeans
baseballs not so much

I understand why this sounds ridiculous, but at the same time, if a shooter just walks into a random building and starts shooting, 50 people throwing a hockey puck could do damage enough to deter the gunman I would think.
Hockey pucks are fricking heavy.

I’m more picturing that they are locked down and can hear gunshots etc
So yes they all get the pucks out

Just outfit every class with a single bullet proof 4ft tall bullet proof shield attached to emergency alert system (like fire extinguisher)
When a gunman shows, grab shield and bum rush, he hits the shield a couple times maybe but he'll get tackled and pummeled shortly thereafter

I would be ashamed to be associated in any way.
Give out dunce caps too.

With a nice Triple Deke and Knucklepuck combo the shooter won’t know what hit him.
But all it will take is someone like Fulton Reed on the other side of the puck to get politicians calling for stronger sports equipment control laws

You know what I think right before my gun fights?
Where's my hockey puck?
Where's my hockey puck?

A well-placed shot would do some damage. 30 well-placed shots would probably subdue the attacker.
Umm, no. Let's be real here for a minute.
In a crowd of 30 puck armed individuals, you can immediately rule out the aim and/or power of the feminine half and, realistically, half of the masculine half. That means that maybe 7 or 8 pucks find their target with decent velocity.
But furthermore, while a puck will certainly hurt if it hits anywhere, the only location where it has a realistic chance of disabling an attacker is the head. But that just so happens to be an even smaller target, so that reduces the chances of a hit even further.
So now you're banking on a handful of pucks being thrown by guys who may or may not be ready to shite their pants as a gunman takes aim. You're also banking on them all being thrown and finding their target at the same time, because the gunman isn't going to wait for the crowd to use up their ammo before he uses his.
Bottom line: if someone comes into a room with a gun and my options are to get the frick out and save my life, or take my chances with the crowd, this is a fricking no-brainer.

That’s pucking stupid. Who the puck came up with that idea?

Stupid.
Better off hiding than popping out (presenting a target) and pissing off the gunman and making him really really want to shoot you.
Stupid beta b*tches trying to come up with defense strategies...fixing to get people killed.
There is a reason why you are better off playing dead with a grizzly than throwing a rock at it. (Or shooting at it with anything less than a .357 magnum)
This is some Darwin award thinking!

Well at least the rocks will be there. So essentially this school just handed out free pucks to their students. If a shooting did happen the administors would be baffled that the pucks didnt work when they handed them out a month prior. People are stupid...
Good size rocks is better than nothing to distract if anything, but a bit silly still.

Where do you propose 30 students hide in a 25’ x 25’ room?
