you arent paying for the house here, you are paying for the location.
They must be confused and think the location is on the other side of Metairie Rd

We know. That’s why so many millennials and Gen Z homebuyers are pissed
Housing is fairly affordable in SC. My daughter and her family just got a nice place for ~220.
We're still in our "starter home".... totally loathe to give up a cheap mortgage.

We shipped virtually all of our small-town blue collar manufacturing work overseas, or automated it. Now all the affordable homes are in places where people can’t get anything other than a minimum wage, dead-end job with no benefits.
My hometown used to have a fertilizer plant, windshield factory, and several other factories growing up. Only one of them is still around. If you can't get a job in healthcare or the local school system or your family business, you’re basically subjected to a life of poverty.
My parents still don't understand why I "had to move to Houston to find a job." Basically have to show them job boards and economic statistics to get them to shut up about it.

Old Metry, right by Big Lee's...
I've been in that house, a lesbian couple owned it. One was the daughter of my old boss who had her retirement party there.. Pretty nice house. They moved out of state to a more lesbian friendly area...

I’d rather first time American homebuyers be my neighbors than the alternative Governor Abbott pushing for it to be.

What's the nearest city of any size?

With such a late start, they only have themselves to blame.
That also depends on how 2008/2009 and Covid hit them. Terrible timing for a huge chunk of the Millennial cohort.

It's being sold for over $800,000.
It's really just a further indication of how ridiculously expensive housing is today.
That's because it is in the most expensive neighborhood in Jefferson Parish. The same house, half a mile away, across Causeway, would go for $300K

My nearest is Columbia... Their's is G'ville.
It's certainly higher than it was 20yrs ago- but not as high as it looks like other places are.

We should not resent the boomer but rather treat him as an object of pity and scorn.

Another major issue to me is the concept of a "starter home" is lost on this younger generation. When I think starter home i think of like 1000 SF, probably 2 bedrooms with maybe a full sized 2nd bathroom, no frills.
Where are these located not in terrible/ghetto areas or areas so congested that they're incredibly expensive (like CA)?

Equally as nice part of Metairie (Metairie lakefront neighborhood)

And the areas that do have those homes are generally shitholes.
The average home size has increased, yes, but it isn’t Gen Z or the Millenials building them.
The corporations are building them that size and it is all those generations have to purchase.

Nah, they are pricing it like it’s on the good side of Metairie Rd. I doubt they get anywhere near their asking price

Metairie on the lake >>> north side of Metairie road by 4 blocks and it’s not even close. This isn’t a house on Woodvine or Livingston, it’s on Phosphor surrounded by a bunch of other 1800 sq foot houses built in the 60’s. N Turnbull or Edenborn blows this street out of the water
Posted on 5/13/26 at 12:07 pm to Scruffy
it is not a Seller’s Market. They won’t sniff that asking price.
Posted on 5/13/26 at 12:08 pm to Antonio Moss
Yea, it will sell for much lower than listed. And with the other structure it's essentially a 4 bd 3.5 ba with a pool.
Posted on 5/13/26 at 12:09 pm to AUCE05
I good at the maths. I got two houses. suck it.
Posted on 5/13/26 at 12:11 pm to JohnnyKilroy
It does have a pool at least...
