Eastern Europe is probably not very expensive. There are some awesome places with a more recognizable culture.

What’s the story?

It seemed like a compelling idea with good upside. A boutique hotel in San Telmo. Was looking good until squatters took over and one paralyzed himself falling off a ladder they stole from the construction workers, sued us and won.

I think I would still rather pick Latin America but it wouldn’t be a terrible idea.

And that is why Latin America is great. It is western with the prices of Asia.

Im open to being wrong on this- but from my research, as well as having traveled extensively in Asia (but not in Latin America)- my understanding is that American dollars go about twice as far in places like Belize, Costa Rica, Mexico et al as they do in America.. but ive seen, and lived, my US dollars go 5-10x further, as i mentioned, in most Asian countries like the Philippines , Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, Thailand, et al.. Tell me what im missing .

Patagonia is gorgeous. Not highly populated either.
Thats where I would choose, I believe.

Yes I know all about Argentina’s horrific inflation

$61/acre doesn't seem like high inflation is affecting it

I actually like Uruguay and it has long been on my list if I ever left america. This new Argentinian president makes things interesting though.

Everybody already uses the American dollar (under the table before this guy) the Argentinian peso will probably stop being used at some point

His big cardboard $100 American dollar bills with his picture on it promoting this was hilarious.

For money purposes yes it is far ahead. However, that is not all that I value. I want to go to a place where I can assimilate, either bring a girl or find a local, I can raise my kids in a good country with western moral values that I align with. A culture that is not complete alien. Asia isn’t even Christian. It just wouldn’t work for me.

The tip of Chile and Argentina is similar to Southeast Alaska, particularly the Chilean coast. Just an environment I am accustomed to.

the hatred on this board goes far beyond that. I think it is just a southern thing tbh. Not a lot of Hispanics around

I wouldn't say it's hatred, just ignorance. The only experience your average southerner has with hispanics are brown mestizos who have zero formal education, do not speak english, and are here working some manual labor job. They're rarely going to interact with non-amerindian hispanics.

but if the new president can turn things around

Not that the previous government knew what the hell they were doing, but this dude is going to be yet another disaster in a string of disasters.

He's an absolute nutjob who has no power. Unlike places such as China, Russia, etc., where charismatic, nutjob leaders have complete power over all branches of government, this guy has NOTHING. Their version of Congress is still firmly in the hands of his opposition and they aren't going to pass any of his hairbrained ideas, such as privatizing basic utilities.

First of all, i think that’s a fricked up thing to say

We’ve reached a point where it’s “fricked up” for a white person to prefer living amongst white people. Meanwhile we have POC-only dorms and graduation ceremonies and that’s fine.

You can buy a 4-bedroom penthouse in downtown Buenos Aires for less than that. Way more convenient for banging copious amounts of Argentinian chicas.
