What do you mean by the bolded part above? If there was nothing overtly racist, why weren't you comfortable? How would you like the white community to be more "welcoming"?

I am baffled by this question, though I understand the angle. A situation doesn't have to be overt in order for one to be aware. It can be subtle and still produce the same feeling or awareness. People tend toward birds of a feather and that can produce an insular culture that is not exactly warm and inviting.

For this scenario, that gets into the whole bullshitty philosophy of "unintentional" or "subconscious" racism. I say "bullshitty" because whether it exists in a given scenario or not, it has lots of overlap with the feeling of isolation someone can have by being the only person (or one of the very few people) of their race in a large crowd of a different race.

In other words, how much of the OPs stance was from the hypersensitivity of being an obvious outlier versus how much was just from being around a bunch of people they don't know versus how much was any sort of actual racial distancing?

Process of elimination, part 2: the elders, old heads, uncs and aunts of the McKinley area--despite being behind the socioeconomic 8ball figuratively in many ways-- are NOT the issue.

In another thread I advocated for this area to be cleaned up and have access for student housing. Maybe I am overstating the solution for that area and should only be along W. Roosevelt.

For a white guy I am very familiar with this area. I actually lived in one of the 4plex apartments on W. Roosevelt for a semester in the 80's and always felt safe at that time. I have always parked along W. Roosevelt off campus and on campus(band/ old Kirby lot areas) since the 90s for LSU games. I'll say its not necessarily a "bad" area but since they locked up the gate at the band lot at W. Roosevelt it just seems less safe due to lack of police presence and immediate access to campus at that gate.

I like Kevin Gates. The irony is with him is that he makes his women cover up. Yet he rap songs like "thinking with my dick" i guess he can't really rap about n making his wife wear a burka.

1) good post
2) without some draconian measures, which I don’t see happening, I can’t see this problem going away

Once something becomes “cool” to that group and it’s free… it’s going to be hard to keep them away

how about just take the OP for his word on what he perceived instead of projecting whatever insecurities you feeling? OP sounds like a straight shooter, I see zero reason to try and dissecting what the man says.

Go find something to trigger yourself elsewhere. We in here talking YNs and flashing thicc asses

Okay... why does any non defined group owe anyone else feelings of warmth or comfort or welcoming?

I don't know what black people think or experience, but I don't feel a sense of welcome just because I'm white and come across a majority white group.

I don't expect a majority black group to make my white self feel welcome either.

Exactly what does feeling welcome even mean in a group of strangers?

I'll clarify what I said. I started off by stating racial undertones as obviously this is a conversation ripe with racial elements. I stated that since 2007 I've had no issues whatsoever along racial lines (and most lines) when attending games at TS. The first few years of attending games i was always questioned as to how and where I got my tickets and the same level of conversation and commraderie I've experienced for almost 20 years now I didnt experience then. I didnt say it was racist, just that the comfort I feel now I didnt feel then, circa 04-06

I didn't see the original thread on this... were you questioned by attendants or by fellow ticket holders?

What made it feel racist vs security (attendants) or curiosity/ conversation starter (fellow ticket holders)?

Im not whining about my game experiences from 04-06. After all I've never stopped going to games. My m.o. when attending any game is any sport is as follows: if I see a visiting fan in say welcome to baton rouge, I speak and say hello to anyone im sitting or standing next to, and whatever positive commraderie people offer--high fives, conversation, etc-- I meet it and return it. That strategy has served me well as a tiger and sports fan (and in life, I suppose).

But to answer your question, I never characterized any experience as racist. By the luck of the draw I didnt have friendly fellow fans my first few years. Boo hoo, it didnt stop me and im glad it didnt. I brought it up to illustrate that race alone isn't the issue, even when your experience doesn't go how you expect it.

Solutions?
When I policed The Bottoms, the solution was found at the end of a Monadnock baton.

If the police would get back to hammering on these cretins, they’d go find another area to go infect.

You nailed it.

I think it’s funny when I’ve used similar analogies to crap on the loner, live in their basement types that go ballistic with a gun in a public place, but it’s true.

Social media combined with less than desirable role models has created this issue. I see it every day in school. The number of Hispanic kids rocking an Edgar haircut and black hoodie is so predictable. They rep the same rappers…NBA youngboy, Tupac (RIP), and a slew of others. The girls frequently wear white shirts that are way too tight, and have airbrushed art celebrating Selena at best, and Megan Thee Stallion at worst. That culture is celebrated and enabled by their family members.

Different race, same process.

Can you settle a disagreement I'm having with my wife?

Instead of YNs I like to say niglets but apparently that's racist. What's your call?

Unless it's in Tiger Stadium, the Tigers just scored a touchdown, and you're looking around for someone to high-five.

Incredible assessment of this situation. I’m always curious to read about the game day fan experience in and around the campus/stadium. The sociology breakdown seems to be worsening. What drove me away some years back was arriving to our seats and not being able to get to them because everyone is too fat and can’t fit on the row.
