I grew up in a very similar type area, so I can relate.
The year we upgraded from a single wide to a double wide was a big change in our lives. I'm not joking.

I find it amazing what people spend money on. I see a mobile home or a trailer with a newish truck with customizations out the arse and a $20,000 mudboat parked in the driveway.

We were always considered rich because we lived in a house.
When we built our new house, which was 2 stories, you would have thought we built a mansion

For the amount of hate my OP is receiving post wise the upvote/downvote ratio is still kinda close.

Oh yeah, I know that feeling.
See...we were on the family complex. Grandparents had their mobile home over there. We had our's over here. My uncle had another way over in that area. Then, there was the communal thrown together "shop" with the fleet of broken down riding mowers, the various tools, and scrap.
The thing about being a poor kid in a poor community before the Internet was a widespread thing is that you don't know what you're missing out on.
We did get a Nintendo, and we lived on that thing. And we turned out fine and nobody in our family lives in a house with wheels these days, so I downvoted the OP.

We had a Sega Genesis with every single game that they made. We wore that thing out during the summer.
That is...when I wasn't push mowing our 5 acre yard

My four year old is dividing fractions on a tablet game.

Really? Between this thread and the spanking thread, you seem very interested in what other people do, or more specifically, telling them exactly what they should do. Likely an older person with grown kids who has conveniently forgotten all the shitty parenting moves you made when you and they were younger.

Not really. People who give their kids a tablet and set no limits with it are lazy. But there is plenty a kid can gain from using a tablet and parents can function and get things done as well.
I do think there are too many parents that give their kids a phone or tablet and let them spend way too much time on it. I'm probably coming off as the "get off my lawn" guy here, but I do not think the ubiquity of smart phones and tablets has made us a better society.

Yes. It is way more stimulation. One from the digital screen in a physical way that’s different from a hard copy book and two from the basically endless content and mental stimulation that way. It is the same effect in terms of occupying yourself to the observer but to that child holding it it is very different having a tablet over a single comic book or movie and being forced to just make due with that one thing.
Yeah thanks for that. I was asking in the sense of it being considered "lazy parenting" though.
It's the same thing. Parents have always given their kids something to keep them occupied.

No, most people absolutely aren't doing the best they can.
If you are giving your kid a tablet to watch or play on while you watch TV or play on the internet, that is bad and lazy parenting.

How you call folks giving their kids tablets lazy, when your generation was given Game Boys & Game Gears?

Our parents were lazy and self-centered too. It's just that the gadgets were more limited so the zombie-inducing effect was less.
