People may not be saying it yet, but south of 119 on 65 is the move. South of valleydale on 280 would also be in consideration here.
Yep and home prices reflect that. We sold our house in Pelham for almost double what we built it for after only 7 years.

ATL cops not having it
That’s GSP and everyone’s just happy it’s a white boy going down.
ATL cops wouldn’t do squat.

Different demographic perp. Replay that same video and change the truck to a Charger with one of Atlanta’s finest and that commentary would have been 180* (D)ifferent

Like someone else said if I was the cops I would just has thrown the spike strips and destroyed their tires. So now they get the buy (or sadly probably steal) new tires and they didn't even get to do that much.
But sadly there's an increasing amount of people in our society who just believe in lawlessness. I live in what's considered a pretty good area in Orlando and our condo HOA just put in speed bumps as people were using one of our roads as a cut through and speeding like crazy.
I don't know where these people (who are usually not working or lower class) get the money for these tricked out cars. Doing donuts like that utterly destroy tires. I don't know about you all but the idea of having to spend $700-$1,000 for new tires (depending on tire quality and after installation and alignment) after 30 seconds of entertainment doesn't seem worth it to me. Again unless they are just full criminals and stealing the tires.
At this point the only difference between New Orleans and Birmingham is at least Birmingham still has some nice suburbs. But yes no way would I ever want to live or spend a significant amount of time in Birmingham proper. At least New Orleans has great architecture and great food, Birmingham really doesn't have either.

Birmingham has pretty solid restaurants. My wife is from the area so we are there a good bit. Last time we stayed near Five Points South and listened to chargers and mustangs rev their engines all night. It felt like home

The Bamers all talk about how Birmingham has an amazing downtown area and food scene and the best restaurants in the country
Posted on 8/21/23 at 7:57 am to OceanTiger83
Saying that Birmingham doesn’t have a good food scene is the dumbest, least informed take in a thread that’s already overflowing with dumb, uninformed takes

Posted on 8/21/23 at 8:02 am to BowlJackson
Agreed. Lot of faults but lack of good restaurants is not one of them

Posted on 8/21/23 at 8:10 am to dallastiger55
Amazing is a stretch, but downtown is a good area with some really good restaurants and bars.

Bham isn't NOLA in terms of food, but we have some really, really good places to eat here.

If you throw the spikes, there’s a good chance you’ll kill or seriously injure someone in the crowd. Now we can all say “serves them right” but I think the police have to mitigate that risk.
It’s a garbage situation.
Also, in the ATL video they mentioned he hit someone. Not sure if they meant the truck or the cop, but I’m guessing that was the only reason GSP were able to get involved and also draw a weapon and force the driver out. ATL cop would have probably been fired over forcefully stopping this peaceful protest.

So would you rather live in ATL or Birmingham?

There's also a difference between doing this shite on public roads vs owned land. Hell, I would argue there's a difference between doing this on public roads vs someone else's land. Idiots blocking roads deserve to be beaten and thrown in gulags.

Everyone on here sucks off Birmingham saying it’s the nicest city in the south
Posted on 8/21/23 at 9:13 am to Big_Sur
Police don't really need to do anything in that moment. Their license plates are on camera, just cancel their registration and license and submit video to their insurance so they can be dropped.
None of that will happen, but wishful thinking.

not a soul has ever claimed it's the nicest city in the south.
It's a lot nicer than people give it credit for though, considering most people (on this lousiana based website especially) think it's basically a ghetto garbage dump.

that isn't going to stop the behavior at all. It's just a minor nuisance they have to deal with before they get to do the same behavior again. There are only 2 things taht are ever going to stop this:
1) Remove the avenue by which they do this, ie the vehicle. Impound their car. Sur ethey can just do it in other cars, but when your car gets taken away and you don't hav ea ride anymore that's going to be a big eye opener for a large number of them
2) Remove the violater so they aren't able to do the behavior anymore, ie jail. This is my preferred option. Throw their arse in jail for a month and this behavior stops REAL quick.

I live in the Hoover of Atlanta: East Cobb
edit: and I heard there’s been a string of car break-ins just down the road. It’s all trash.

When everyone moves away, we'll be accused of being racist and "white flight" will be a part of the mainstream vocabulary again. But the people who are actually to blame still won't learn anything and still won't shift their voting habits.
The white flight over the mountain happened 50 years ago.
The slow death of the perimeter cities built for the steel workers like Pleasant Grove is more recent, but the city center of Birmingham died a long time ago and has only very recently been resurrected in controlled areas for economic reasons.
I’d say the much larger risk has to do with how many over the mountain nice areas like Inverness, etc have Birmingham addresses, but I’m not sure if the policing is the same once you leave downtown?
The biggest potential problem would be an activist DA like they have in NO and other spots but it’s all related to the same issue: you can’t have urban majority voters and maintain nice suburbs with sustainable public schools, the very culture of one preclude the things required for the other.
If I were a voter in any of those areas I would desperately trying to reincorporate anything out 280 before the cancer spreads.
