Doesn’t sound like the shot did a thing for you if you went into cardiac arrest.

I do think people who work in healthcare should definitely get the shot, and people with weaker than normal immune systems, but i generally don’t agree with normal people getting it. I’ve never had the shot and only the flu once in my life, but it would seem like a person would be better off keeping their immune system strong rather than having a shot carry the strength every year.

I know it’s a touchy subject, and have never really read hard into the statistics to get a good picture so maybe someone can enlighten me

I work with enough immunocompromised kids that I feel pretty irresponsible if I don’t get it at this point. It lessens the severity for me (had the flu once and it was fricking awful) and protects them. Works for me.

Well, the wife got the shot a little over a month ago. The last few days, she is sick as a ran over dog. Just sucks for her and for me. Got a vaporizer running direct to her. Will get her to the Dr tomorrow before it gets way out of hand.

Imo, the shot is dangerous imo

So wait.. Since you haven't had the flu since 2000, you think the flu shot is dangerous?

I got the flu shot a few weeks ago. Had no problems.

I have never heard of anyone I know, at least, getting sick after getting the flu shot.

Also, i don't think it protects you from all strains of the flu, but it is best to be protected from the ones you are able to be protected from than be vulnerable to all strains.

And just because you haven't had the flu in a long time doesn't mean you will never get it and all it takes is that one time to get it and for it to turn into something more serious. It's not expensive at all to get. Stop being pussies and get the damn flu shot.

More than reasonable.

Absolutely

I don't know how to respond to this.

I had the flu a couple of times as a kid. I consider myself pretty hardy, but I get pneumonia quite a bit - 4 or 5 times in 15 years.

With viruses not so much. I've gotten the flu shot every year for at least 20 years and no problems. I don't care for the stupid live virus inhaled thing, but even then I tolerated it pretty well.

All of these diseases - flu, measles, mumps, polio, etc., ALL OF THEM spread in unvaccinated populations. Herd immunity is a real thing and if you don't get the shot, frankly, you're part of the problem.

Now, I get that it is a personal choice. The flu shot, in particular, is hit or miss on effectiveness every year. For me, the risk is well worth the benefit. But, you do what you want, baw.

So you are ok not getting a flu shot and getting the flu and knowing you may have been the reason you gave it to your children, your grandmother, etc.

Did Heather teach you this? You should probably do some research on how vaccines work.

The Spanish flu killed mostly healthy men in their 29-30s and wiped out what 15-20% of population in many areas. It will come again

I doubt he was in cardiac arrest. He probably had vasovagal syncope and bystanders thought he was in cardiac arrest. Happens a lot.

How many people get the flu shot? I would estimate it is probably around 20%...
