Also, Hurricane Andrew in 1992 was a huge factor; the storm destroyed a number of exotic wildlife facilities .... One of the buildings affected was a breeding facility for Burmese pythons, and many of them escaped.

Seems having a bunch escape at the same time in the same area jump started breeding.

It's quite tasty, but really expensive. Unless you know someone like these people.

out of curiosity, what would be a natural predator for a snake that large in its natural habitat??

Seems to me is they are overtaking the Everglades treat them like wild hogs and nutria, open season all year, all weapon and no bag limits.

Yeah, but I'm pretty sure it's not legal to sell meat from a hunt to the general public for consumption.

I bet the Florida baws eat it all the time.

Everglades python

There's no way to really control this evasive species, is there?

We can always depend on trashy Florida losers get some exotic pets, then dump it into the swamp when you can't take care of it.

Just like Lionfish in the gulf, they are invasive. I have kept them one of my aquaria from time to time. From what I understand in Florida they are being caught and sold commercially, they are delicious and like grouper.

I dont know what is scarier the 25 ft boar eating Python or the thought process that leaving the house in full length black jorts, a black wife beater and matching flat bill is a good look for a 40 year old man with shin tats.

There is, especially on private land. There's only a season the the Wildlife management areas to allow additional weapons to be used. They don't want people carrying .22's and shooting them all year. I can't remember the weapons you can use during the season I think a .22 and shotgun? But you can kill them and trap them all year even on the WMA's.

A strong winter should take care of most of them. Even a short period of freezing temperatures are deadly for them.

Their digestive system slows down if it dips below even 50 degrees; so I imagine larger ones like this in Florida are still pretty rare.
