Deal?

dunno what you making a deal with me for, i'm not a legislator... i ain't making any rules and/or regulations.... i'm just voicing my opinion... i understand you don't agree with it, and that's fine, but your anecdotal evidence for argument is a little skewed, no? it's pretty easy to have less guns deaths when there are less gun owners/users than those that use a car, smoke, drink, eat sugar, etc...

but i do agree that we be trying to decrease those deaths, as well... and there's no reason we can't do ALL of those things simultaneously, as they are all issues independent of each other, as it pertains each's related death toll...

1st part, absolutely correct.

2nd part, who is going to be the one's making that decision? That is where the problem lies. Millions of gun owners out there and they aren't doing bad things.

yes, if i had a voice, i would want a mental evaluation commenced before selling high capacity weapons... i don't think that's that irrational, given what we've been able to get out of most of the mass shooters... most have had mental issues in their past, so trying to weed these people out should be a step that is included...

Should that evaluation also cover who drives automobiles? Would there be a standard definition of mental defect, sketchy background that is applied the same to all?

Skewed by logic, whereas yours is skewed by emotion.

Banning vehicles that exceed 25 mph would all but end vehicle deaths. Banning hfcs would do wonders for curtailing obesity. Banning tobacco would end tobacco deaths. Banning alcohol.

It’s about saving lives I thought.... no one said saving lives is easy.

will never happen no matter what rules and regulations are put in place.

You're hoping for pipe dreams. Just stop it.

absolutely... but at the same time, you are sort of conflating the issue... i am specifically speaking about semi automatic weapons and stuff that usually gets the blame in mass shooting attacks... and you and i know full well, not all those "millions" of gun owners have something like that... that's a much smaller number... but at any rate, i don't think that a few more steps in the process, to essentially cut down, even further, the chance of a powerful/deadly weapon ending up in the wrong hands is not that much to ask... even most gun owners support that argument...

however, i do think assault rifles and higher capacity weapons, capable of firing/damaging stuff more quickly and efficiently, should be harder to obtain than, say, a hunting rifle or something like that...

And I think the 1934 NFA and all subsequent "reasonable gun control laws" should be repealed.

Already can’t have them. How’s that working?

This is where it’s going to get really fun for me, and really embarrassing for you.

What mental issues would qualify?

Do you see any chance of this being abused?

Does the group with all the power have an inherent bias when it comes to guns?

Appeals process?

How long is the ban good for?

why the whataboutism to detract from the topic of discussion? look, if we start getting a ton of vehicular mass attacks, like we see from certain guns, i'm sure there will be more emphasis put on cars... but for now, can we stay on the topic of talking about guns... and keep in mind, we are actually on the same side... i want you to be able to own whichever gun your little heart desires... i really do... i just don't want some cracked out, mentally unstable person to be able to own a very deadly weapon, capable of murdering a mass amount of people...

Who decides that a person is mentally defective? Has a sketchy background?

Can you answer that?

And I just slipped some money under the table to have a couple psychologists say you are mentally unstable and your firearms will now be taken away because I don't particularly like you.

Of course this assumes an ex-wife or ex-girlfriend doesn't do this first, without even having to bribe the psychologist.

Sorry bro.

obviously, neither you or i have all the exactly right answers to this problem, but do you not think this issue is something worthy of at least trying to solve? i don't have all the answers bro... and like i said, apparently neither do you... but to just say well, frick it, we'll just leave it as is and hope for the best, where at this point we have evidence that can at least point us in the right directions to initiating starting to try to fix it is ridiculous...

Sure. Let's start by addressing the problem and not the tool.

So far your only solution is to address the tool.

well, the background check would obviously be like something you see for a job.... typical background check... if something pops up there, do a little further digging with an enhanced check...

just keep trying figure out if the individual can or cannot be trusted with a high power weapon... if not, they can still own a gun, just not a semi automatic... why is that such a terrible thing?

really? did i say ban ANY weapon, at all? no... i'm saying we need to weed out potential problem people to avoid them getting their hands on high power weapons ONLY... not ban them from ALL guns, but just those capable of committing mass murder....

i'm sorry you are so biased that you can't see that i'm actually arguing on YOUR side this issue, just with extra stipulations...

Ahhh the tried and true emotional ploy. Pathetic.

I absolutely have the answer.

The world sucks. The world isn’t fair. Bad things happen to good people. The only person responsible for your safety is yourself.

You want to be able to take people’s right to self defense away. I don’t.

Emotion emotion emotion emotion.

Come back and talk when your balls drop and you unclench your pearls. Emotional thinking isn’t the way to go through life, boy.

Logic over emotion. Always.

There is a problem that can not be solved and it is called Human Evil. Call it abnormal human psychology if you want, call it violent sociopathy, whatever . The point is that it is omnipresent and it’s part of the deal. There are people among us who want to shoot you, stab you, devour your innards, burn you alive , crash your plane, ad infinitum. It is the human condition.

Given that, I would choose to live in a free society where risk is heightened then a Coercive State where the government holds all the power and is the instrument of terror. The State in just a handful of countries killed over 100,000,000 in the last century. I will take my chances with freedom and the risk that comes with freedom.
