I've been telling people that all sharp knives in this country need to be confiscated and future sales and ownership made illegal.
We need to protect the Chir'n.

no major red flags, imo...
Key word: IMO.
That says it all from you but what about the government?
They have already talked about taking guns from veterans being treated for simple depression. Dr.s have already asked about the guns in the homes in the private sector.
The government will screw it up and local LEOs will over reach in some places.

We should make murder and assault illegal. Oh wait.

.. thank you for your service, sir....
What I'm seeing among us is good intentions but like normal, we have no answers.
I get frustrated because we can't.

this is wrong... i don't support this at all...

as a clinician, you'd get one vote of confidence, so there you go...

what about the government?
dunno, don't work for them....

i've never heard of this... i'd like to hear more, if you have the time...
quote:maybe... and maybe they won't... but let's at least start to try to do something better than we are now, to make a better, safer society... just doing nothing isn't working
The government will screw it up and local LEOs will over reach in some places.
look, at the end of the day, we are ALL on the same side, which is we want to progress and become a more perfect society... we may have different views on how to get there, but that's where actual discussion, not backbiting and/or mudslinging, comes in... and i really do thank you for your service, bro... i don't say that lightly...

This is the part that a lot of people fail to realize or don’t care to address.
If gun bans are implemented, if gun confiscation come into play and the 2nd Amendment us repealed, what do you think is going to happen? You will live in a tyrannical police state. There is no other solution. You will be at the mercy of the government for EVERYTHING. They will have no fear or any amount of respect of the people. Because what the frick are the people going to do about it? We are sacrificing personal autonomy for a VERY false sense of protection.

which is why a lot of us do NOT support a gun ban nor confiscation...

No. But as you said, we can find them through rational discussion. That typically comes with answering questions and asking questions.
Still waiting on you to do that....we can start with these easy to answer, open ended questions.
quote:
What mental illnesses?
What’s the appeals process?
How long?
Is there an inherit bias against or for guns in the group in power?
Is this going to be abused?
I don’t have the answer isn’t an answer. I’m not the govt isn’t the answer. That isn’t up to me isn’t the answer. I’m asking in chris’ opinion, the answers to these questions are......

quote:
What mental illnesses?
i'm not a psychiatrist, so i'd leave it up to their professional opinion, as far as what traits or mental states would be cause for concern...
quote:
What’s the appeals process?
i figure 2 independent screenings would be a good starting point, but you can appeal any finding by getting a 3rd opinion... if 2 of the 3 agree you may be cause for concern, then you have a 1-2 year period where you can get treatment, medication, therapy, etc... and then reapply and get re-evaluated...
quote:
How long?
see above... and you can continue that 1-2 year process as long as you'd like...
quote:
Is there an inherit bias against or for guns in the group in power?
ideally, you'd like for it to not be, but just like political ideology, you can't 100% eliminate it... and again, i'd propose severe penalties to any practitioner that is fraudulently failing and/or passing people... loss of medical license and fines is a good place to start...
quote:
Is this going to be abused?
not sure what you are meaning by this, but if you are saying will there be people trying to fulfill a self-serving ideology, then again, put in penalties for doing such, try to hire the best candidates, and see where we are then... and as always, re-evaluate what we are doing, see if there are areas for improvement, see areas that are problems, and try to make it better...
