My God.

Let them try to tell our student section to stop doing something. Bet that won’t backfire.

But why

Goes back a few years.

quote:

In 1908 the Washington Times reported that a keeper at the New York Zoological Garden baited "Alligators With Pickaninnies" out of their winter quarters. In the article two "small colored children happened to drift through the reptile house among the throng of visitors" and they were "pressed into service." The alligators "wobbled out as quick as they could after the ebony mites, who darted around the tank just as the pursuing monsters fell with grunts of chagrin into the water." The alligators were "coaxed" into their summer quarters by "plump little Africans" ("Baits Alligators").

You ain't gotta believe it. But the perception is real and it's not new. Google "Alligator Bait African Children", You'll see this didn't just come up in 2020.

Another article from 2016 from that shitty excuse for journalism.

Oh I know, I knew exactly where the idiotic reasoning came from.

I’m about to start making up racist background stories for anything I don’t like and promulgating them then using them as evidence of racism so I can have That thing cancelled.

what a liberal thinks everyone in the swamp is thinking when they go the chomp:

"oh i'm getting one over on all these blacks! they don't know this is really a euphemism for gator-on-baby violence! hehehehehe"

Hell I thought Florida stole "Gator Bait" from "Tiger Bait".

So...

Let me get this straight...

A dubious historical account, very dubious, from a New York zoo... Something I would believe people in 1908 would've found pretty heinous, regardless of race, without even having to look to see if this is real...

Is evidence used to prove the University of Florida's (not New York, nowhere near New York, in fact) Gator Bait taunt is racist...

Hell I don't know neither. I been trying to find the truth. But it's one rumor or hearsay after another.
I can't find an actual picture or evidence that african american children were dangled to lure gators into zoo enclosures or for hunting.

It's like the AIDS needles in the payphone coin return slot urban legend.

LINK

The baby as bait trope was apparently used all over the world according to snopes.

Deconstructs the Ferris state article.

This seems like an old wives tale. Maybe the threat of gator bait was used as intimidation or a warning at the time, but the actual practice is highly doubtful.

Yeah, lot of links saying thats complete bullshite fwiw.

Read the Snopes article. Even they say it's bullshite. They examined all the "news articles" from the time and found them to be more of racist dark humor than actual fact.

We should definitely change everything based off of chain emails and urban legendS

Maybe I can make up a story to get them to cancel “Roll Tide” or “Rammer Jammer”

Did you see the black creator of the chant came out against it’s cancellation?
