Do we have any Florida posters that can explain why people are outraged by this?
There’s an urban legend that white people used to drag black peoples behind boats to bait alligators...
Despite there being no actual evidence of this. Like most things ignorant people deem racist. Like crowbar, buck knife, etc.
One ignorant person shares their ignorant and untrue “facts” and before long it becomes the “truth”. Despite zero evidence

You know they will dig up something on Rammer Jammer too, if "Gator Bait" can be deemed racist.

Jaws is fine because most shark attack victims are white for some reason. Maybe sharks just hate white people

there is horrific historic racist imagery associated with the phrase,"
I would have given anything to hear a reporter loudly yell, "Oh frick off!" upon hearing this.

UF Gator Bait Chant
quote:
If you're unfamiliar ... America's past use of "gator bait" truly is disturbing -- reportedly, white men would use African-American babies to lure gators out of swamps so they could hunt them more easily for their skin.

Link to where this has been "reported"? Who the frick ever heard of such a thing?

Honest to God, I seriously expected a link to Babylon Bee after reading the title I guess that’s a good indicator of just how incredibly ridiculous real life has become when it’s actually no joke.

I heard some ignorant arse black woman tell me this once.
As well as the term “crow bar” being based on “Jim crow” (it’s been around since Roman times) and other stupid stuff.

Immediate legend status if TGBFTL plays this at the swamp this season when we are winning in the fourth quarter
Posted on 6/18/20 at 1:00 pm to JudgeRoyBean
But chicken is so much cheaper. Why would they use babies?

I'm not bragging or anything, but I know alot of shite, however, I've never heard that. How many people do you think have actually ever heard that?
Besides, I have it on good authority that a hungry gator may may be the least discriminatory creature in the world. For fricks sake, they eat NUTRIA!
RIP, Tanden.

I have never heard that before. And that's clearly not the purpose of yelling Gator Bait.

This was my exact thought when I first read this

Yep, that was my thought. How is there outrage in this?

People who invented it from whole cloth. Zero evidence or sense behind it. Now people have been fed/sacrificed to crocodiles...in Africa, by “people of color”.
And I’m sure that people have been thrown to the gators. But there is no evidence of anyone ever using black babies to lure gators out of the swamp. Because it doesn’t work like that.
You’d use cut up raw meat.

That was more likely to be Native Americans, but they would just use any ol' baby they could catch. After all, Native Americans taught the Europeans how to hunt gators.

It is racist toward gators as they are Cute, cuddly, loveable, and loyal pets.
Just because people see them kill their prey to eat does not mean that they are all bad reptiles.
