Seriously. I think the term "bullying" has been watered down. Being "teased" about something is different than being unaccepted and being verbally abused constantly.

Kids have to learn how to work out some issues on their own.

Man there are some heartless bastids here.

What is 4th grade, like 8 or 9 yrs old? He’s a freaking KID.. Most of us were sensitive to things at that age, not just kids today .. and i’m gonna go out on a limb and guess he comes from a poor family who couldn’t afford to buy him a Univ of TN shirt.. most of us here probably came from middle-class or even upper-class backgrounds, you add being poor to the equation and it makes it even tougher.

I feel for this kid, and i love that his favorite team/school reached out to him.. i just hope they ask him to lead the Vols out of the field this weekend since theyre playing in Florida.

They have sold over 10,000 shirts.

Proceeds from every shirt sold will be donated to STOMP Out Bullying.

Getting teased isn't bullying.

If it is, then the term, like so many others, is effectively meaningless.

That’s a brittle spirit.

Yeah.

That kid is way too old to be that pathetic.

It isn't "hearing things negative that you don't like".

If it is, then OK, that's fine. It's just no big deal then.

Bullying can either mean something bad, or, it can mean ALL levels of slightly negative.

If you want to define it as the former, then I'm with you in wanting to prevent it. If you want to define it as the latter, then, meh. Teach kids that life happens.

I wonder if Texas will do anything for the crying longhorn boy who will undoubtedly be ridiculed to no end by his classmates today.

Not going to lie, when I saw that kid the first time crying and just repeating "Jesus f-ing Christ" over and over, I laughed a bit. But when ESPN shot to him a SECOND time I thought "oh Christ that poor kid. why would they go back to him."

Doesn't seem like it. Kinda shitty of the University to capitalize on the situation. I get that they are donating some of the revenue to proceeds, but pay the boy and his family if you are going to use his design and circumstances for profit.

Kid gets "bullied" because he designed a University of Tennessee shirt. UT decides to trademark the shirt the kid designed, they donate some of the revenue. Everyone goes out and buys the tshirt because the kid got "bullied" because of it. Kid who designs it gets $0.

Seems like UT is trying to find ways to bring in revenue they will lose because of the lack of attendance they will likely have the rest of the year.

That's a great story. I can't stand an adult that bullies kids.

We had a kid at our high school that was super smart. Ended up going to Vanderbilt. He wasn't a great athlete, but had a good attitude. Didn't mind riding the bench and savored getting into the game in mop up time. Honestly the guy you like to cheer for.

Growing up playing baseball, he was always a benchwarmer. We had a game where only nine showed up. This perennial send him to right field guy ended up playing third base and did a good job. I remember my dad telling me that I needed to emulate his attitude when I was pissed about not playing the position I wanted or some nonsense.

In 7th grade basketball we lost a game 50-3. He hit a 3 in the 4th quarter and both sides of the gym went crazy. We were all good friends. He loved it.

We got to JV basketball and our coach who thought he was Coach K and Wooden combined just hated him and told him every day he would amount to nothing. Told him that book smarts was for losers and because he didnt eat, sleep and breathe basketball he was a nobody. One day at practice we were having an unnecessarily hard practice after a close loss and he had to use the bathroom. He was polite, asked coach for a break and coach refused.

I remember the look in his eyes that this wasn't a joke. He wasn't the type of kid to get out of a workout and had never been that way. As soon as we were given a break, the guy ran to the locker room and didn't quite make it. Coach went in there and came out saying "He shite his pants! He shite his pants." I don't know exactly what happened but the rumors were that he just barely didnt make it and got some shite on his shorts and couldn't come back out to practice. But this loser coach just took joy in it. Pissed me off but honestly most of the team and the varsity team that was there just went in there and laughed at him.

The athletic director was an old school football coach that we were all scared of. He brought us in the next day to ask us what happened. Me and another guy spoke up and the others followed (even though they were laughing and making fun of him too). They fired the coach that day. This was early 90s.

The guy quit basketball, all sports and clubs and basically became a loner for the rest of high school. He earned valedictorian and refused it. Went to Vanderbilt and became a cardiologist and has a beautiful family. Doesn't have anything to do with his small Alabama hometown though. One of my biggest regrets is that I didnt reach out to him. The most I talked to him is when he refused valedictorian. He didn't even want to show up for graduation but the school made him.
