Thank God. I need a sweaty guy with a 10th grade education to tell me why undercoating is important.

People on here blow their load over the thought of robots replacing fast food workers and AI replacing journalists/writers. But keeping industry protections to keep people employed at car dealerships is great. If dealerships truly provide a service and are needed then they will stay in business, let the market decide right?

People that work at fast food restaurants are actually providing an important service. They are way more valuable to society than car salesmen.

It's multifold. The dealerships make a profit selling cars. they clearly want to protect that interest. Additionally, think about all of the people you deal with and see working in a dealership when you buy a car. This is entirely about protecting the power structure dealers and manufacturers have structured over lo this many years. The dealers have put a lot of time, energy, and resources building their infrastructure and want stability in a rapidly changing world.
It's not about the poor working man. There will still be people selling and fixing cars if it went to a direct to consumer model.

Need less government but it's not going that way with interference in our lives and assuming we can't make our informed decisions. If the decisions don't work out, one still learns something from it.

Jesus. That’s fricked up and embarrassingly shameless for republicans.

HB 637
You damn idiots will believe anything. The bill changes a % from 40 to 30. Actually doing the opposite of what the OP states. Since EVs don't have dealerships to the 30% they are exempt.
The bill reduces the dealership %, making it easier to have direct to consumer.
OP is fake news.

I will be voting Trump 2024. Hopefully Ron in 2028!
Both of these guys will use government against Dems. I hate that that is what needs to be done, but Thomas Massie/ Rand Paul approach just slows down the left, we need to stop it.

So the fact that Tesla is the only manufacturer that has the infrastructure to do this and doesn't have the huge dealerships that would get annihilated again, like they did during all of the mergers or brands, like pontiac/oldsmobile, being consolidated, makes this simply a law done for political favors.
This is not an executive order but instead voted on by the legislature and presented to DeSantis as a bill and he signed it.
Of course this is a solid compromise to protect the established dealerships for other brands but allow sales of one of the most popular cars in the world, Tesla Model 3. Highly unlikely other startups will be anywhere close to being able to do direct to consumer anytime soon, and the Tesla charging system network has been adapted by Ford and GM, so you need to ensure Tesla has the ability to stay solvent to support the charging infrastructure that they bought and paid for, so they have earned some exceptions. Did Rivian build a charging station network adapted by the 2 largest US manufacturers?
This is of course a reasonable compromise of a law and makes a lot of logical sense, but gives the chance to criticize by those in fear of DeSantis. It's intelligent legislation, which is probably too hard to recognize because it hasn't happened at the federal level in years.

Free Market Ron? The true conservative.
Conservatives all across the country have been voting for and protecting dealer laws. I thought we were all about small government!

Why are they tweaking it instead of just letting companies sell direct if they want to?
Does anyone honestly believe that politicians restrict freedom to buy direct because they're just so concerned that consumers will be screwed if they don't have to buy from dealers?

TD needs a “community notes” feature so idiots like the OP can bath in downvotes.

A solid compromise? Republicans sure are willing to give up a lot of ground to special interests and call it "solid".
Like we're just gonna let Democrats convert 30% of our kids into trannies instead of 40%. What a solid compromise!
You fools should stop letting dealerships dictate who is legally allowed to sell cars. Full stop.

I’m sorry, I’m dumb at this moment. Does this mean they can’t get online to purchase a vehicle and must go to a dealership? That doesn’t seem like something he can force.
