A Chevy Silverado owner installed a BBQ in the pickup bed, but things seemingly got out of hand very quickly.

As the video gets under way, we see a smoking Silverado barreling down a bridge covering a body of water in Carrabelle, Florida,
quote:
then starts backing into the river with the entire truck bed engulfed in flames. Apparently, the driver tried to put out the fire by throwing sand in the bed, but that was clearly insufficient to choke the blaze.
quote:
With little options and even less time, the driver decided to shift into reverse and submerge the rear end of the truck into the water, just as the rear window shatters and the flames spread into the cabin.
quote:quote:
Unfortunately, the truck lost ground, floated away and sank into the river. It’s unclear if the Silverado owner’s plan was to partially back into the water, or sacrifice the truck entirely, but either way, the result is a total write-off. Luckily, the driver walked swam away with no apparent injury.

Was about to say the same thing. He 100% accomplished the goal of extinguishing that fire.

If you’ve ever been to Carrabelle this behavior wouldn’t come as a surprise.

Florida man is hard but fair. That's just what you become when you live with alligators.
Seriously , though, that was as good a plan as anything else given the circumstances.
It was at least possible he could have backed down the ramp enough to put out the fire without sinking the truck, but he was well on his way to a major problem if he didn't do something drastic.

Not gonna lie, I’d probably done the same thing.

Man, that looks like a 2000's model with the original Vortec engine. What a waste..

If only he'd opened the tailgate before backing in.

Now that his insurance company has this video I'm curious as to how they will handle this case

I'm sure he's learned from his mistake and will do that next time.

Auto Insurance rep: We won’t cover this as accidental fire damage. We’re classifying it as intentional water damage. You owe $25K which we cannot cover. Anything else we can help you with?
