This might be an unpopular opinion but I like the Baton Rouge airport. It's easier for me to take a short flight from BR to Atlanta or Houston and from there to pretty much anywhere than to drive for an hour down to MSY and deal with a crowded airport and rude staff.
I love using BTR for quick meetings and gamedays in BTR. Not having to rent a car to make the drive up from NOLA is great.

Still not great news for AUS especially considering the tech industry not doing as well as it was a couple of years ago.

Wait until we get our train rolling!!!
Thousands will br riding the train to MSY.
We might have to shut down our airport!
Seriously, they are subsidizing flights out of the BR airport; while they subsidize rides to NO to the airport there. We have dueling government welfare systems.

Definitely not, but AA was in over their head and losing cash in AUS.
Virgin also cut their AUS-LHR route citing low demand.
On the other hand, AUS had their busiest day on record after F1 a couple of years ago so demand is still strong for major events.

Then this discussion isn't for you.

Who charges you for luggage? I ahavent had a luggage charged in years.
$30 for Delta/American, $25 for United, extra if you need more than one bag.

Anywhere im flying BTR doesnt have a direct, neither will NOLA, so connections are the same.
I can't fly to FLL/MIA/MCO/TPA directly from BTR. If I connect, it's a 4.5-8 hour travel at the worst hours available (usually 5-6am start time.)

Yeah but when you have a connection you at least double your chance of issues with delays or cancellations which are on the rise

Saw this coming. I said there’s no need for a flight to DC when American (Eagle) already flies to Charlotte. Other than being a non-stop to DC (which is needed by almost no one) there’s nothing flying to Reagan offers you that Charlotte can’t top connection wise. This flight was pulled off by politicians who were able to grease some palms.
Didn’t you have to move to texas just to find a job? You don’t know anything about Baton Rouge

Yes. That is what I meant.
People going to DC from BR are very clearly choosing MSY over BTR, so I guess I don’t see your point?

With flights to IAH, DFW, ATL, and CLT you're one stop from pretty much anywhere in the world. That's what BTR is and will always be and people need to accept that.

i'm the same way, but my company makes me look at MSY and BTR when i book, and will make me choose the cheaper option unless the difference is something like 20% or less.
I have flown mostly out of BTR the last 3 years, so to say it's more expensive is a bit of a fallacy.

WHy are you taking two bags? Are you not capable of fitting everything in a standard carry on luggage as well as a backpack? I just went to China for 8 days in a carryon only.
and if you need two bags, why wouldn't you just get a bigger bag and just check one bag?

Florida is a legit reason to drive to MSY instead of flying out of BTR. I just went to Fort Myers out of BTR and that was a dumb decision considering i connected in Charlotte. You'll save a lot of time going out of MSY if you are going anywhere in FL.
The only other places i would consider MSY is going to Nashville or the midwest if there are direct flights. Anything going to the northeast or the west coast and you save 2 hours at best by going through MSY instead of BTR, and i'd rather spend 2 extra hours in a plane than me spending 2.5 hours driving to and from New Orleans and then having to deal with the shitty people of that city that work there and walk the halls of those terminals and share a seat with on the plane.
Last time i went out of MSY I had to listen to a hood rat that reeked of weed trying to explain to a woman he was talking to on speakerphone on what she needed to do to become his bitch, and he kept talking to her until he lost a signal as we were in the air.
Haven't flown out of MSY since then and wont' ever again unless it's to go to FL.

If there aren't enough to fill a flight, where will the ridership come from for the once a day train to NOLA?
Posted on 11/7/23 at 4:40 pm to BilbeauTBaggins
With the airport in New Orleans, until air traffic is changed and BR becomes a major port, flights like that won’t ever catch on.
There has to be some sort of attraction to get mass amounts of people to use the BR airport.
That’s why i laughed at the train idea from BR to Nola. No one is gonna use it.
I would much rather drive to Nola and back just so i can go and leave whenever i want to and have my own transportation

It's not rocket science, pick the most popular routes from NOLA and go with that:
Orlando
Austin
Denver
in that order.

I also noticed in DC airport that you could look 500 yards in every direction and not see an attractive woman
I noticed the same at DCA

This. It's weird that so many people automatically default to MSY, but I assume they just don't fly enough to know when one is better than the other. Here's a few pointers:
1) American Airlines is generally the same pricing as MSY if you book 2+ weeks in advance. Plus, the E175s are very comfortable, no middle seats, you don't have to leave your bags in the jetway, etc.
2) For some reason, United and Delta are generally $100 or so more expensive at BTR if 2+ weeks out. Alot more if within that timeframe. They suck.
3) Go MSY if they have a direct flight that BTR doesn't. Delta and American have numerous direct flights out of MSY that they don't have in BTR (NYC, Miami, etc.) Plus, Southwest has a ton of options out of MSY. This does indeed save time.
4) Cost notwithstanding, BTR is generally better if there's a connecting flight. People like to say it only takes an hour more to go to MSY, but that's wrong. I can literally leave my house an hour before a BTR flight departs, drive there, park, and get through security, etc. If MSY, you have the extra hour drive, plus you have to add at least 45 minutes for unexpected traffic (especially around Laplace for some reason), 15 minutes for more difficult parking, and at least 45 additional minutes for security. Even their PreChek lines are often bad. So, MSY requires leaving AT LEAST two hours earlier and I would say 2.5 hours. Plus, BTR has the added benefit of getting home within 15 minutes after the return flight.
Long story short, there's a time for both IMO -- depending on circumstances.

I need that flight in May of next year.

Correct.
But I wouldn’t mind a nonstop to another hub like ORD, JFK, or EWE. I think every one of those would have an easier time filling seats than DCA.
