The new airport is nice, y’all miserable fricks complain about everything.

What you’re describing I’ve seen at every fricking airport I’ve traveled to.

They go hand-in-hand somewhat. The trashier the person, the more they don't give a damn about their surroundings (and that includes the lives and property of others). Find a neighborhood with constant, large amounts of litter and you're also likely looking at a neighborhood with a high amount of crime.

Last thing you want…is to have to wait on baggage claim…

That is certainly something you don’t want, but to me the last thing I want is taxiing in to the gate at MSY, stopping 30 feet short and not having someone there to pull the skyway ramp up to the aircraft. Maybe it’s just me, but it sure seems to happen a lot at MSY.

Happens all over. Airlines will try to condense flights from going into say 10 gates to 7... that way they can ask staff to LWOP thus saving the company money.

What happens is when in the evening, flights start getting delayed... planes that are landing have nobody to work those flights. So agents who have been getting crushed at work all day are asked to run to a gate to work yet another flight (possibly two at the same time)...

blame this on the airlines for contracting out loading and unloading the baggage and not providing any benefits or even decent pay for the backbreaking work that requires.

This is true, with the mortgage market slowing down severely, I was looking for an afternoon or night job and saw a few postings for airport work. They don't pay jack shite. It's a wonder anybody can even make it to a flight nowadays.

For years it was said that New Orleans is a great place to visit but a shitty place to live. Now it's not even a great place to visit.

We left NO years ago and never came back. What a sad shithole that place has turned into.

The longest I've ever had to wait at baggage claim was actually at a small airport - Eugene, Or.

Isn't it depressing to fly into MSY after vacation? I hate it every time. And in the summer, that heat and humidity can knock you down. Plus all the culture. Yack!

We got stuck in Miami last week coming home from St Thomas because of the hurricane. Our flight was cancelled along with every other American flight and I had to book another airline to get home. I was sorry happy to land into MSY after a 13 hour delay and sleeping in the Miami airport with about 500 other people.

3 pages and nobody has referenced the M in MSY stands for Mogadishu.

I left in 1990 and have not returned (other than to visit). I was flown in to interview for a job in July and the disappointment in my home town has only aged like a fine ripple. My experience at that airport and the entire city during my two visits over the last year have only reinforced my stand that NOLA is off the table when I retire from the Army.

Suggestion, travel to a decent city and see what they have and compare. Then go to 8 more and see where in the top 10 you would place NOLA. It's not at the bottom because I spent 2 years in Memphis.

This. We forget, don't realize, or choose to ignore the reality that other places do not have all of these problems. There are really nice areas where we could live and not be miserably hot all year and not be constantly fearful of crime, and yet we stay.

It's my family keeping me here.
