How does this hurt Disney in the long run? A loss of "power"... Are you wanting the government to have more power over them? You for big government?

What I was saying is that if you are really worried about sexual abuse of children, you are directing your attentions to the wrong place. Over 90% of sexual abuse of children is done by people the children know well and trust.

Yes, in the words of what Disney support, some boys are really girls and some girls are really boys. We at Disney think that it should be a child’s decision how he or she or they think what gender they are.

Absolutely. DeSantis is a damn good politician and he's just using what works.

If this is such a bad deal for the counties and, by extension, such a boon for Disney; why didn't Disney push for this decades ago?

Currently the district pays 13 mills

I think it’s Disney pays the district that it controls 13 mill property tax rate.

If the whole thing gets divided among counties would that include the billion in various assets along with liabilities for govt activities along half a billion in assets with liabilities for business type activities (utilities)?

District’s total net position including govt & business activities was above $500 million.

District’s business activities had almost $155 million in revenue for charges of these services.

The counties and state will have over a year to figure out a solution to still legally collect the $139 million in property taxes from Disney (87% at least from Disney) for govt services and it’s debt service instead of from the rest of the counties.

If Disney needs to agree and not ready on exact date they cut services to regular county standards instead of Disney standards, they don’t have to pay $3 million to Disney for its services and can start charging Disney fees and permits like every one else while causing typical govt delays like for everyone else.

Disney has cut out land like Celebration to maintain complete control over the district. They will want a solution that gives them some control back as well having priority again even if solution has to follow current constitution and laws now.

If new law can’t be challenged or overturned I don’t see getting the funds to pay debt as a problem as much as debt itself being used by Disney to stop law in first place. Most of these districts are set up to exist with a promise from state to not affect ability to pay bond debt as long as bond debt exists and/or a set time frame (not sure on refinancing bonds or state agreed updates), but I am not sure if back in the 60s this exact situation was adequately covered on top of state adopting a new constitution since the 60s. If possible that type of action should be enough to show all the law needs to be changed anyway and pressure Disney to accept, but Disney has that SJW warrior thing going on to play the victim now.

This will decrease Disney's tax burden. It actually helps them along with shareholders and several other businesses within the district.

How is this an attack on Disney? I don't understand the reaction.

This excuse is tiresome. When a company interjects itself into a political argument about schools and parent’s rights, expect there to be consequences, especially from this governor. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction.

Not a problem, any price to remove a pedo corporation preaching pseudo-equality to push a pedo agenda is worthwhile. Frick Disney, next up is Tranny Cinderella. They can keep it.

You’re oversimplifying a complex issue like many other Dems in panic mode over the mid-terms. You’re a hack

And don’t bother with the rest of what you posted, because it’s bullshite.

Oh so let’s just ignore the problem with the vagueness part of the law? Got ya.
If it weren’t for the super weird and vague parts of the law I would just shrug it off as a stupid do nothing law passed by a dude trying to garner support for a presidential run. But of course it isn't and of course you want to ignore the problem with the law

This is just a dense retarded question.

The people of Florida can now tax them appropriately?????

You are really going out of your way to defend Disneys special status.

Pretty odd considering Disney has obviously told their people to shut the hell up and stop stirring the pot.

You are white knighting more than they are defending themselves.

Corporations should not be able to govern themselves.

There is no reason as to why this legislation was rushed and put into special session.
I'm bookmarking this comment and will bump this thread right or wrong on the date stated. Out of curiosity. On this issue Ican truly see both sides. Our friends on the right are not wrong about the corporation having too much power in that state. Our friends on the left aren't wrong about it being a reaction.

As a Disney fan if this ends Chapeck then I'll vote DeSantis in 2024. I like how he leads. I don't agree with everything. But I find myself more at odds with the party I grew up in than the opposition now.

DeSantis admits local taxpayers are on the hook for Disney debt, but spins that Florida budget surplus will cover it .
